In 1908 Englishman Robert Baden-Powell founded the Boy Scouts. A prominent peak in our local San Gabriel Mountain Range is called Mt. Baden-Powell. That's it..... Hal
I have a friend who runs a troop from the church he attends. It doesn't seem the newer generation is as interested as they once were. Kinda sad since it's such a wonderful organization.
Oh it was a Huge thing when I was a kid. I was in the brownies and guides as was one of my sisters. My brother was in the cub scouts and Boys brigade...
On this day, February 8, 1910. the Boy Scouts of America was founded by Englishman Robert Baden-Powell. In our local San Gabriel Mountain Range, a prominent peak is called Mount Baden-Powell in his honor. Were any of you Boy Scouts? Hal
My ex husband was an Eagle Scout, as was his father before him. He was also a Sea Scout, with a troop that sailed a sailboat. Neither of our sons had any interest beyond Cubs.
I was a cub scout and then boy scout. I think I got to Life scout(?). Scout master's nam was Frank Braxten who's swear word was jinkers.
Our synagogue hosts 3 different scout troops throughout the week. They have use of the designated rooms, plus the fellowship hall for dinners and award ceremonies. I'm not sure if we donate any money towards it, but the facilities are free to them.
That's great @Bess Barber when I was in scouting it was at a Methodist church under similar circumstances.
My dad was a Boy Scout leader, and my mom was a Cub Scout Den Mother. I was in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, but I was a Life Scout, not Eagle; in the Order of the Arrow, though. I was on the staff at the Bear Paw Boy Scout Camp near Mountain, Wisconsin when I was 13 and 14. Later, as an adult, I was an Assistant Scout leader for a troop in Texas and an Advisor for a Boy Scout Explorer Post. Our Boy Scout meetings were held at the elementary school in Wallace, Michigan on Wednesday nights, I think. I read, only a few days ago, that the national organization is about to file for bankruptcy protection, due to a string of lawsuits, many of them ongoing, as well as large-scale membership losses due to a number of reasons, some of them having to do with policy decisions they were pretty much forced into making over the past couple of decades.
No photos here? What are cub and boy scouts compared to being a young pioneer? Was a cub scout but never raised in the ranks beyond the age of 13. Stopped any engagement completely. Did have a high rank, though, (see my decorations on the sleeve) and had a lot to say.
