From midday today, all Australian pubs, restaurants, cafes, gyms, casinos, sporting venues and cinemas will shut their doors. No one knows for how long the freedom to enjoy ourselves in this great city of Sydney will be stopped. They have even closed all places of worship. The only certainty is these uncertain days is that our world is being forced into drastic and unprecedented change due to this blasted virus.
A church one house away from me, did not conduct a service today, this is the first one they cancelled. I'm assuming because of COVID19, if so, why the delay, closure is a little late, i thought. A neighbour across the street who is split from their marriage, she's from here, married to a U.S. citizen, they lived in North Dakota, our border state. They split, she and her 3 kids live across from me, he comes for child visits.....now, i thought the U.S. and Canadian border closed yesterday for non-essential travel. He was here to visit his kids today. I wonder if that visit was wise, i would have thought that could have maybe have waited. My opinion.
This virus has stopped religion in its tracks with Australia closing the doors of all places of worship today, while, wait for it.. hairdressing salons are permitted to stay open. How is getting you hair permed or cut and styled considered an essential service. while religion is not. Surely if authorities are bothered by more than 100 people being in the one place.. hold scattered church/ mosque or synagogue services. These are worrying times so people need to know that they still have their religion to keep them strong minded.
Actually, I did write something about that, for what it's worth, referring to what leading virologists have found out so far. According to them the virus is not seasonal like the flu. Cf. http://www.seniorsonly.club/threads/this-coronavirus-problem.15183/page-7#post-413954 Meanwhile, the virus keeps spreading in warmer regions all over the world shattering all hopes that the warmer season might effectively stop it. Experts expect a dent, though, because people will not be gathering indoors in large crowds as often as in winter. Curfews will have an additional impact.
Had to make a trip to the vet clinic yesterday for food, treats, etc, the rule there is, call ahead for what you need, what time you'll pick up, pay over the phone, they will bring your order to the door outside, if your pets need an appointment, you wait in your vehicle, outside, a technician will come out for your pet and return them in the same way, not sure how calving calls are treated..............Drive through downtown, looks like a ghost town, restaurants are closed, take out orders only, for now, my X is not a real happy camper, he lives in the restaurants, he can fry eggs, open tins now, and make porridge, tough life. Not sure how many stores are closed.......We will get through this.
No one knows what the rules are here. Too many groups making decisions. The University closed 2 weeks ago (that decision by the University System Board of Regents), but our county (Mayor), smallest in the state, had few other restrictions, which kept changing. The neighboring county, half rural/half suburban, seemed to be thumbing their nose at all this. At 5 pm yesterday the Governor finally ordered a statewide "shelter in place" but only those at high risk, while Atlanta and Savannah are telling everyone to stay at home. At the federal level, the CDC, the Coronavirus Task force, and the White House seem to be contradicting each other. The difference in activity today was noticeable, but some restaurants in the next county already have a sign out that they will be back open on April 6th (only 2 weeks). Georgia now has about 1100 cases, which is rather high compared to the state population. Most in Atlanta and Albany. I've been following the most stringent guidelines since the schools closed. It's easy for me, but I'd probably do it anyway. Maybe this belongs in the Soapbox Thread.
We are continuing to do only things that are necessary to us. Vehicle repair, but we didn't stay at the shop. An employee drove us home and came and got us when repair was done. Went to Walmart and done the quick "in and out". Wash our hand numerous times a day and very little physical contact, except an "elbow bump" at times. Still sleep in the same bed, but not close to each other (pillows between us). IOW, so far, so good.
If you go to Bing and enter "Coronavirus" it will give you the number of cases confirmed, deaths, and recovered for your state, country, and global, as well as a map showing cases of the virus. Of course, the recovered numbers probably only include those who have been hospitalized because those who are self-quarantined don't necessarily report their recoveries.
I'm having trouble with SoC today. I'm getting a blank screen sometimes. I posted a hypothetical question in Game Chat a few days ago about the internet getting overloaded because of so many people being at home and getting on the internet. Is that possible? Could that be why I'm getting blank screens?
