Hi there Lon. I’m in Australia. And I am sure missing the great outdoors at the moment! At the moment I go for a stealthy walk around my suburb, then I scuttle back inside. Not exactly what I’m used to. In June I was expecting to be travelling Spain, Portugal and Morocco, with a lovely hike to a Moroccan mountain village thrown in. I’m sure I’ll get there eventually, just have to be patient.
I sure enjoyed the several trips that I have made to OZ since I retired 30 years ago. I went with my Kiwi second wife who I met and married in the U.S. N Z is so close to OZ and that is where we left from. I enjoyed driving the Gold Coast.
I’ve seen a fair bit of my homeland but travel in Australia is expensive in terms of accom, which is a shame. I once stayed in a hotel in Venice for a price that would have just covered a hostel here. But Australia is a beautiful country and at present we have only 500 active Covid cases!
I’ve never been to Perth, it’s so far away, although only a couple hours by plane I guess. I have a relative there. I also have a relative in Buderim, which is in our Sunshine Coast area - now that’s a lovely place to live!
I liked the whole Queensland area. Spent some time in Port Douglas reading about the Coral Sea battles during 1942 WW2. I am a History Buff
Well last year I had the privilege to stand in the spot where our Allied Forces were evacuated from Crete. It’s a little place on the southern coast called Chora Sfakion. There’s a memorial there, it’s very moving. Apparently they got most of our people out but had to leave some behind. They joined up with the resistance fighters in the mountains of Crete and continued to fight. I’ve also stood at the waters edge in Vanuatu where you can see many tanks that were dumped there when the American forces pulled out. It’s quite a sight.
Yes, but the MOST fun I had in my life was the period when I was age 54 to 58. It was between my first and second wives. Hal
Honestly as much as I ever had per topic, already 5 of 7 days next week planned, not a sit down type, between fishing, shooting and friends I stay going till I drop!
You apparently don't have any health problems Tex. How old are you and where in Texas are you living?
Well, it appears that our RV trip will be postponed until the fall at the earliest, so that kind of bums me out. I'm going a little stir-crazy at home all the time so I guess the "fun factor" has dropped significantly around here. I'm thankful that my family has not experienced the CV-19 or suffered from financial distress so far, though.
I guess we have to set out “fun-o-meter” on low for a while. My lovely trip is cancelled but I’m well, financially ok, own my house, have family and friends who care. I can’t be with my family but we can communicate. As they say, you’re dead a long time so I stay home and stay safe. We don’t have much Covid in Australia but I don’t trust my luck....
