    Wow. That would make her at being born around 1917! She went through practically everything the 20th century had to offer plus some of this one.

    In the UK, in the years just after WW2, there was no such thing as television, so folks socialised by meeting in the pubs, then they'd bring crates of beer back to someone's house that had an upright piano for a 'do'. Singing into the small hours was quite common and neighbours would just walk in and join the party. If you walked along the roads you would likely hear 'We'll Meet Again' coming out of lots of doors.
    On the radio the other day, someone said that Vera Lynn was the British Forces Sweetheart, but I've know quite a few Americans, Canadians, Aussies and more who adored this wonderful lady.

    RIP, Vera, you captured the hearts of the world.
