My wife took some chicken livers from the freezer. I'm sure she'll cook onions with it and hopefully mashed potatoes and gravy.

I'm going to finish off the leftovers in the fridge (tiny hamburger and tiny piece of pizza) for dinner. The plan is to make some small 'doughnuts' out of packaged biscuit mix, since it's Shrove Tuesday, aka Fat Tuesday. I had pancakes recently, and so I probably won't make any of those, but I figured this would be easy and fit in with the day. Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, so it'll be fish, cole slaw (just made another batch) and some veggies, probably broccoli and cauliflower or brussels sprouts.

Sounds good, @Sheldon Scott ! Did she oblige with the taters and gravy? This makes me wish I'd still have a recipe I had years ago... totally enjoyed it. It was chicken livers with some kind of cheddar white sauce... and spinach if I'm not mistaken. Sure was good!

Maybe I should look for it. I do have a "recipes from the past" box but I don't think I've seen it there for a while. Can't for the life of me remember what I served with it... maybe with the meat and veggie both in there, I didn't need a side dish. Yes, you've given me a mission... I'm going searching for it! :)

I had a beautifully decorated Mardi Gras cake for dessert last night, @Diane Lane ... sure was good! (Stop looking at me like that... no, I don't mean the whole cake! :)) So anyhow, that means no doughnuts for me today.

I *am* making Jambalaya for supper, though... a lo-cal recipe and it looks wonderful!

That sounds yummy, @Mari North what did it look like? We see the coffee cake type desserts here with the green, gold and purple sprinkles, but I haven't had one on a while. I might make some butter cookies to ship off to family/friends also, so don't want to go overboard on my dessert.

It was made to order at my bakery (almost bought a King Cake online straight from a New Orleans bakery, but they wanted $30+ for shipping and it would have make it over $50... yikes!) Anyhow, I told them I wanted a yellow cake with their delicious Whipped silk icing... and I said to write "Mardi Gras 2016" on it and use purple, green, and gold parts of the icing . Then they thought it was a bit plain, so they added ribbon and sprinkles. Told me the sprinkles were edible but I probably shouldn't try to eat the ribbon. :D

Chicken livers. If I weren't afraid of the high concentration of pesticides and poisons in the liver I'd enjoy some chicken liver pate'. I had a recipe for it a long time ago. Tasty and smooth as velvet on a cracker or piece of toast

Wow, that's a lot of postage. I guess it was considered perishable, though, so perhaps that's why. It sounds as if your local bakery did a good job of it, though :).

I ended up eating my leftovers, plus made the biscuit doughnuts, and they were yummy. I still have some left of course, even though I only made one tin of them. I have some pork chops to cook, but they'll have to wait for tomorrow. I'm looking forward to having fish for dinner, it's been a while since I've had fish.

I still have a craving for broccoli rabe (rapini), so I made a bunch again last night with garlic and olive oil. GS wanted tacos, okay. Doggie and I picked on rotisserie chicken.

@Ruby Begonia, is that the very thin stalk broccoli looking thing? I've been meaning to try it, is it similar to broccoli in taste?

@Chrissy Page, yes you described it well. It tastes nothing like broccoli! It has a few florets but very few. It is bitter, especially the first time. I usually blanch the chopped greens and stems in boiling, salted water about 5-6 minutes, drain and heat with lightly browned garlic and olive oil. It's popular here with Italian sausage and cavatelli. tmp_951-th(3)-1784444254.jpeg
