I can't believe what they are proposing for this industry and don't like it.

Well I guess they just wanted to give normal people a reason to never watch their self-gratification award ceremony.

The movie industry has little to do with the diversities displayed in each human that really count.

I don't know, Lon, there are a lot of diverse movies out there. Asians have Crazy Rich Asians, Blacks have Black Panther. I'm sure there are some Hispanic movies out there also.

How much more "diverse" can there be?

I do agree with you Cody but I think Lon is focusing on the Oscars and other celebrity award shows. They”re almost like our employment standards which demand that a certain percentage has to be black and or female.
Simply put, they want more black actors and females nominated for the big awards.

Well, I've seen black celebrities get nominated but they just don't get awarded.

The current push for diversity is about diversity within the film itself like including Blacks in a Latino film with Chinese directors & photographers

I'm not much of a movie fan anymore. Somtime an emcee can make a night at the Oscar awards interesting.
I have no say in the matter, nor do I have control of my home tv or the remote. I out of touch with most
aspects of this subject and probably should not be commenting. But let me say this, I saw something the other
day I liked, maybe it was someone's signature. It goes like this, "The great barrier reef is dying and I'm not
feeling so good myself."Isn't that a dandy? Hope my spelling is okay. I'm having more trouble with it everyday.

I haven't watched any awards show in 20 years; yawn. All I can say is, the award should go to the best, PERIOD. All the participation ribbons, limp-wristed men "winning" women's sports contests, and giving an award for being diverse instead of talented are just more signs of the decline of society.

ETA--and I have to wonder how the liberals in Hollywood will support this change when it affects them and their work. They love to mouth off about how the rest of us should live.

So everyone has their "unique culture" but somehow we're all supposed to do the exact same things in direct proportion to our percentage of the population. Hmmmm.....

The problem is it makes one suspect of qualifications when certifications and awards are handed out to strike a predetermined blend...and that's the intent. Those who truly achieve have their accomplishments diminished.

Destroying the individual is just another step towards Marxism, and that's certainly what stuff like this does, with a bonus of eroding trust between individuals. The purported "reasons" for doing this are a pile of deceitful crap.

Part of the problem is that determining "winners" in everything but sports is pretty subjective, and that's where doubts creep in. We all have our own opinions.

It's like someone else telling us what the best tasting food is. A good number of us are gonna rightly throw the BS flag no matter what is picked as the winner.

Going through the collection of DVD's in our local libraries, I have come across some really good foreign films and not the artsy types. There was one I remember from South Korea giving their version of the Korean war, and few war films from Germany like Das Boot about German submariners and one about mountain climbers. Even with English sub-titles they were good.

I went through my phase of watching subtitled movies back when Blockbuster was around . On a somewhat related note, I also subscribed to The Economist for decades. I enjoy getting a non-American view of things...not that I wholly believe any of them (including the America-centric one.)

As I've often quipped, if you want to introduce stress into your life, go to the World Wildlife Fund and adopt a polar bear...then adopt a seal. Their views are equally valid but are far from identical...and they're both just trying to survive.
