    I now have Arthritis in my Knee. What knee brace shall I buy...the slip-on or the Velcro strap-on type?

    Thanks,
    Harry

    A shot of cortisone.
    Other than surgery, to me, a knee brace is almost a last resort thing since (1)some of them have a tendency to bunch up behind the knee when in a sitting position and can cut off a lot of blood flow and (2) they can be downright uncomfortable.

    I tore a ligament in my knee a month or so ago and it's still giving me fits, but like Bobby said... the knee brace is annoying. My preference is the velcro type since they have more adjustability. The elastic band type have to be really snug to be effective, so they are harder to put on.

    I appreciate the reply, Beth...I'll buy a velcro-type knee brace!

    Being pretty new at arthritis, I am feeling things out as they come up. When I first started feeling the effects of arthritis in my fingers, before there were any visible signs of it, I was able to keep them limber by twirling a baton a few times a day. That seemed to work for a couple of years but I don't know, it may have aggravated the effects of arthritis, or not; as I say, I don't know. Sometime after I began seeing the effects of arthritis, although they are not nearly as bad as I have seen in several other people, CBD oil seemed to help. At least, I imagined that swelling was reduced, but that seemed not to last very long. Since I type for a living, working online, being able to use my fingers is kind of important to me. So far, I am able to type pretty well yet, but I'd rather things not get worse quickly. My doctor suggested soaking my hands in Epsom salt and I've been doing that every night for about a week now, and that seems to make my fingers feel better. It seems that the swelling might be reduced a bit, but I'm probably imagining that.

    When it gets to that point, I will but I consider medication - even over-the-counter medication - to be the last resort.

    Fenugreek seeds and Bromelain ( pineapple core) are two of the most popular natural remedies for arthritis pain and swelling.
    One other attribute to Fenugreek is that it protects the liver unlike ibuprofen or acetaminophen and both Bromelain and Fenugreek are antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and healthy.
    Bromelain as an anti-inflammatory comes with a restriction though. It has to be taken on a fairly empty stomach because it really likes protein and wears itself out on it when the stomach is full.

    There are a dozen or so links to Fenugreek and it’s many uses so I’ll just leave it up to you to peruse Dr.. Google or Nurse Bing.

    By the Bye......they work!

    @Bobby Cole

    I keep a jar of bromelain in the cupboard. Tenderize tough cuts of beef with it!

    Yup and if ya keep that meat in too long it turns to mush which is why a lot of folks use pineapple juice + for marinades. It breaks down proteins at a tremendous speed and in the human body, readies them for metabolization.

    I think cold and damp weather make it worse, so it's time to move to Arizona.
