What happened to this respected member? I don't recall his name, but he's not posting anymore and I miss his comments.

@Thomas Stearn ? I haven't seen him recently, but his profile says he was here on Monday.

If it's Thomas you're thinking of, he(?) was a man of few words.

The two of you have been here about the same about of time, and he has less than 1/2 the number of comments you do. (You and I comment at about the same rate.)

    LOL!!!!

I am so glad you caught that.

I recall the guy not posting a lot, so I looked up his stats, then I looked up my stats. Well...I wasn't gonna do that do myself. So then I looked up your stats. BINGO!

You and I comment at about the same rate. But since you asked the question. ;)

Thanks, Hal, it's good to be missed at least by somebody. :D Don't worry if you can't remember my name. These things happen as we age. To be very honest, though, I was under the illusion that I had left a lasting impression on you which would enable you to always recall my name. It's Thomas, Thomas Stearn. But no harm done. ;)

I had read with regret that you can't use your rowing machine the way you wanted to but then learned that you could still use your treadmill, which is good. What would you like me to comment on?

And, @John Brunner it's interesting to be classed by you (and the stats, of course - I didn't know that there is such a thing) as "a man of few words". You may be surprised that, in fact, I'm "a man of many words". The question is where they are posted, here on SOC or elsewhere.

As you know, stats give an average but do not represent activity peaks nor the distribution of activity. My peak activity here on SOC was before you joined. So you may have missed out on that earlier phase with a higher frequency of posts. :)

So your initial term of frequent posting must be those "halcyon days" to which I hear long-term members refer, huh? ;)

I imagine that many of us come out of the gates chatty, and then activity diminishes.
Perhaps--like so many things--the newness wears off.

@John Brunner, that's a good question. I'll have to think about that.

The newness doesn't necessarily wear off but frustrations increase. :D Yes, I love the meteorological halcyon days which we have in August and while working always made sure I can take my vacations in this period. Just enjoyed them again as a retiree.

Perhaps "chattiness" or lack there of depends on subject matter and what interest it holds. Looking at some of the forum titles, there seems to be a lack of diversity in general discussions, or hot topics. Lacking in various humor subjects as well. What's slightly naughty humor or jokes, when I see what can be classified as such under a regular humor thread? The format seems some what stilted in several ways as compared with some other forums I have visited in the past.

    Just my observation.

Very much so. I usually post and comment on what I find most interesting either here or elsewhere. This approach helps me entertain myself as much as possible because that's all that matters and also commonly done. :D In addition, it also saves me from an intellectual monoculture, to put it that way.;)
