What are you trying to show me Bob? I live with the Amish. My next three neighbors past the one next to me are Amish. My father is a Yoder Toter and keeps a phone in his cellar way for their use Other than three BTO's in my county. the majority of ag is Amish. They started moving in about twenty years ago from mostly Pennsylvania and Michigan. Our roads are covered in horse apples. I love having them. They are buying all the small farms as people retire and reviving the old places with poly ag practices. The only other option is that the BTO,s buy up the land, raze the old buildings, tear out the hedge rows and put it into mono ag, beans corn and wheat.
Every sect is different. Electricity is fine for your business or barn,if you generate it yourself, you do not have it in your house though. While driving around, you will see what looks like an outhouse,on the side of the road. These are Amish Telephone booths, once again seen as a necessity, and to be used for business, only, all though from looking at Dad's phone bill,it is not always the case.
Family across from Dad raises turkey. They need a processing plant not possible under ordgung rules. They still need to meet State and USDA regs, They need a lot of hot water and they also need liguid nitrogen tanks and pumps for flash freezing. They have a separate building with a old tractor with its wheels removed powering a generator through the PTO.
For the house, propane and wood are the heat sources, propane also powers the cooking. Water pressure is obtained by wind power, the propeller driving an accumulator.
Amish life is not as any magazine article purports. The Amish are human just like us, they hold no special powers . There are the honest, and the not so, they have their wife beaters child molesters animal abusers, drunks and drug addicts.

I was hoping your bit would be moved to a thread that would accommodate your rant but alas, it hasn’t been.
My point was relatively simple Pete. You do not have to attack the members here to make a point. A simple reply would have sufficed but instead you acted the schoolyard bully again as you seem to always do.
I posted a simple link by which you could reference but, you didn’t but instead decided to publish hearsay based on your singular experience. The Amish / Anabaptists are not in any way all located next door to you so giving a generalized statement of the whole is somehow lacking in research....again.

Personally, I do not care how the Amish live because the way they live does not affect me in any way. I am however, concerned about how much socialism this country can adapt to and what type of socialism is being introduced. The Bernies and SOC’s of this country would rather the government have all the say about where and how money is spent without one thought as to how much money their initiatives are realistically going to cost.
Will the U.S. citizenry suddenly put up with overall tax increases up to 60%, 70%, 80% to accommodate their kind of socialism? If you haven’t done the research, and you haven’t obviously, the green new deal, one of Biden’s planks, is scaled to cost nearly 45 trillion dollars but he, just like Bernie and SOC hasn’t nor will say how that is realistically going to be accomplished.

All that said, that was a ‘MEME” that @Al Amoling posted. A picture with words. You too have posted pictures with words. They too might have been construed by many to be stupid, idiotic, and unintelligent but you posted them anyway and ya know what, no one called you stupid, idiotic nor unintelligent for doing it no matter how tempting it might have been. We do try to be civil here or haven’t you figured that out yet?
    It’s a picture with words......get over it.

Isn’t this supposed to be Thanksgiving? A peaceful day of giving thanks for what we do have? Try it Pete, you might like it.

Nope. If you made a simple statement or even an opinion concerning a subject instead of trying to debase the writer, I’d be pleased as punch to form a working dialog with you. A dialog doesn’t mean that everyone has to agree on everything but we can disagree without the attempt to fragment a person’s character or intellect.
It is a given that two wrongs do not make a right but you’ll notice that I only get harsh with you when you attack other people.....or myself. So you do not like this or that politician or the President. So what? No one cares but the way you present your cases are abominable.....and you know it....and you like it.

Now, back to socialism Pete. To use Frank and his position to shore up your feelings about socialism isn’t fair at all. Merely having free medical isn’t going to happen under any circumstance because the money comes from somewhere and nothing but nothing is free to begin with. Under a so called free medical system such as the type used by the UK, from what I understand, the normal load for each medical practitioner is around 2000 patients which would mean that the potential for one such as Frank to see a doctor in a timely fashion for a full diagnosis to begin with might be life taking instead of life saving.

Notice that I have never written that I like our medical system but if you have some better ideas other than Obama care or socialized medicine I’m willing to read it all.
As it is, my wife has been through at least a dozen procedures for her heart, 5 of which were invasive and we haven’t had to put out a cent. If anything happens to me, the VA takes the hit but whether or not WE put out the bucks isn’t the question but rather who Did pay for it?
That question may remain for a moment but we happen to like the way things are. Would we like it as much if I was younger and back out there in the work force? Probably not but whatever it would be I would still say socialized medicine has it’s pros and cons most of which are cons which agree with the thoughts of the majority of medical practitioners.
Heck, even our “socialized” government run educational system doesn’t work so if something so simple can be so badly run how is it that some think that a complicated thing like a national medical system can be run competently by the government?
    In short, it can’t.

I was listening to several economists both in English and Spanish talking about the Socialism in Finland, Norway and the other countries in the area. They said that while these countries used to be "socialists" upon realizing the damage this system caused their economies they switched to free-market ones.

Although in my other country Socialism didn't succeed in the 60s / 70s...I lived trough some of their attempts..
BTW, I am sure no one in USA has seen a Cuban jumping in the ocean "from Miami back to Cuba."

People who talks about Socialism -good / bad- should, first, have a little chat with those human beings who risked their lives among the sharks in the Caribbean to scape from Cuba...or the ones who dug during months tunnels between Venezuela and Colombia to escape first from Chávez and now from Maduro...
Have any of you heard of a Cuban swimming back from Miami to Havana?
People like Bernie Sanders and the likes fill their mouth with the Socialist Nordic countries.....Well, according to well versed economists these countries realized their mistakes on this approach and switched to a free market economy. Please, compare them now and then. Thanks.

Do you think Socialism is around the corner? Yes ? No? Why?

I have never been in Venezuela or in Cuba but in Argentina I suffered very close -as everybody in the country- the actions of the guerrilla.

My Cubans friends see the "closing of small business (pandemic is the excuse), the lack of many every day products, the mandatory use of the masks...." as a way to indoctrinate / manipulate people.

I am acquainted with a professor who thinks it is a good thing and
wonders why Americans are so afraid of socialism.

All these idiots have plenty of places to go in the world that have socialism. America is the #1 desired destination for immigrants because of our "you control your own lives" capitalist system.

For all the cries of "Diversity!" we can see that they don't really mean it...just like all the other cr@p that comes out of their mouths.

So your perception is they are idiots (I’ll have. to look up idiots). Let me think now, is
Diversity related to politics or race? What is all the other crap coming out of their mouth?
And how can we see they don’t mean it? Inform me. I occasionally have conversations with
the professor and your answers might give me something more to discuss.

Please, talk to a Cuban...a Venezuelan...a Nicaraguan...a Salvadorian. Nobody risks his / her life "to escape a paradise".
