Our thoughts and prayers are certain with you, @Beth Gallagher! I hadn't thought about you going home and being in contact with others while being toxic. We had to wear chemo-certified gloves when dealing with chemo patients, but I thought much of that was in the past. Bless you, lady.
My rant is nothing compared to what Beth is going through, but I went to the grocery store here yesterday, and the price of the brand of bacon we usually buy has doubled since we were last in the store two weeks ago. Chicken was still fairly cheap, but I hear some of the wings restaurants are having to take them off the menu since there is a shortage of chicken wings. Gasoline has gone up 50% here since the inauguration, and everything else is creeping up too. The government has quoted inflation at 4.5%, but it appears higher to me here. I just read in a British novel yesterday the "bacon is the currency everyone understands." Since her change in diet, bacon has become a big thing in my wife's diet, so we notice the change.
@Beth Gallagher, I'm so sorry you are going through this, and sure hope a successful outcome will be quickly reached. I'm not sure I'd have the courage you do to submit to such an industrial strength treatment regimen. Hang in there. Hope you feel better and better with every day.
I am adding our prayers to everyone else’s, and also sadness that you are having to go through this much pain and misery right now. Hoping that it at least does the job, and you will soon be free of the cancer and all of the treatment as well. Sending love and HUGS for you, and prayers for a fast recovery, Beth !
I just hate Walmart sometimes ! Having worked retail for years, I understand the how and why products get dismissed from shelves. But good heavens leave me something I like. Last three years, they have deleted things I had bought there for years. Literally every time I go into the small neighborhood Wal mart store they are out of something. If I order for pick up they are out of stock. Then there is the ' we don't carry that anymore'. Today I wanted some pastrami from the deli - They do not have any ! Seriously. What deli does not have pastrami ? To top things off, big and small store are doing complete re-set of the stores. Ok, it is time to change things up, but now days this happens when stores are open vs doing at night when closed or less customers. Can not find a dang thing! My Kentucky ham, was removed last week and no one seemed to know where it was. I asked again today and this one employee went and found me one in the back. I can tell i am rambling now, so will hush up. But dang it, just once I would like to buy a the store and everything I want is there
Gotta sympathize with ya Gloria. In two days my favorite hardware store is closing. It’s been there ever since the beginning of the Korean war and now they are locking the doors. It’s a place where a guy can find anything no other store of it’s kind has. Need a special nut? It’s there. Need a fitting ya can’t even find on Amazon? It’s there. They even gave me discounts for paying cash and discounts on things that haven’t moved in a long time. I know everyone’s name and they know me and when I go there it’s like walking back in time. When I first started going there I expected to see a pickle barrel somewhere with two geezers playing checkers on it. At one time, they even had a snow sled on a shelf that was left over from some heavy snow north Alabama had some 50 years ago. All gone.
I've really been smacked in the face with this when I moved to this rural area. I had never in my life gone into a grocery store and not been able to find a head of lettuce (Romaine.) It happens all the time here. I buy one head per week, and this happens at least once a month. Not only does it happen at the local rural Walmart and Food Lion, it happens when I drive into Charlottesville to shop at Kroeger...and I make that 50 mile round trip specifically to get decent produce. Regarding not carrying stuff at all...there used to be some product (I don't recall exactly what it was) that I really liked and could only find at one independent store. One day I went to that store to make my routine purchase, and the product I had been buying there for so long was nowhere to be found. I asked the clerk if they moved the display, and she told me that the product was so popular that they had a hard time keeping it in stock...so they stopped selling it.
We have a similar small family-owned hardware store/lumber yard a couple of miles from here. My husband goes there for convenience (not driving 10 freeway miles to Home Depot) and it is a step back in time. Nothing computerized; they write your receipt on one of those little receipt pads. Their prices are higher but it's worth it for convenience sake.
@John Brunner - when the same item is not at your store or others -usually a recall of product. Romaine lettuce has been on recall here off and on for two years. Beth and Bobby, awe I remember those type of shops, and yes those are disappearing all over. In retail of most places this is what happens : the vendor discontinues item, be it food or something else. Sometimes they do that to - bring it back under new and improved logo. Sizes, the most bought is what will be on the shelf. Then sometimes when stores do re sets, product are eliminated because lack of being bought, or, new item will replace old one, or not enough space . No longer carried items are returned to vendor - if they want it back. If not then is on clearance aisle or bought buy places like Big Lots, Dollar Tree etc. Something occurred to me today that we have not heard in years...Blue Law. Remember when we could only buy certain things on Sunday? Oh what a pain that was.
Verizon Email: You are eligible for an upgrade!!!! Ooohhh!!!! UPGRADE!!! Lemme go look!!! [logs onto website] Wait a minute. I've finally paid my phone off, and you're trying to start the cycle all over again by calling it an upgrade?!?!?!?!?!? Gee, I'm glad Verizon doesn't hold my mortgage...or officiate weddings.
New Orleans Illegal to sell men’s clothes on Sunday. Unisex shops stay open, men’s stores are closed. That said, no one enforces it. Walmart is always open.
