P.S. to my last post. The confident assurance which I mentioned is based on the literal and physical resurrection of Jesus, for which there is much evidence. In doing so He conquered death. As a result all who call upon him for their salvation will also experience life everlasting.
All the "birth pains" that Jesus spoke of in Matthew 24:3-14, Mark 13:3-13, and Luke 21:7-19 are happening now and increasing in intensity for sure. For those who believe in the Rapture I hope your are ready, and for those who don't...I still hope you are ready. There's no doubt in my mind that we are living in the last days before Jesus Christ returns for His Bride. I've got my wedding attire ready and waiting and extra oil for my lamp. I'm ready for my Bridegroom...are you?
Our teacher in high school religion class is a Catholic nun. She tells of predictions on the so called armageddon or end of the world. All thoughout history, the doomsayers have been here, predicting that the earth will stop revolving and all life will end. The latest was a radio announcer (sorry, I forgot the name) who said that the end of the world will come on that exact date, a few years ago. And when it did not happen, of course, he has an explanation to bail himself out of that shameful mistake. In 1970, the Jehovah's Witnesses have predicted that come September 30, armageddon will happen since it is the end of the 6,000 years. Checking the history of JW, that sect is fond of predicting the end of the world... and they always fail in their prediction miserably.
You're correct Corey, specific day & hour predictions fail because God says in the Bible, "No one will know the day nor the hour". But he also provided many biblical prophesies leading up to the end times. Many have been fulfilled. Some are being fulfilled today. We can tell from studying biblical prophesy that we are getting nearer. The Bible warns us that, while we won't know exactly when, we better watch and be ready.
I so agree Herbert, and thank you for posting this reply. I wonder the same things that the OP stated about the world ending, heck, sometimes I wish it would because of all the pain and sorrow. On the other hand, I've had such a good life, and can still have more I realize, but for the little ones growing up and getting to go to their first Prom, or play baseball on a team, just the wonderful things of the world. I don't want them to miss out. Things are sure going bonkers denise
I don't believe the end of the world is nigh, just this particular empire as mentioned earlier in this thread How long this particular one will take to play out is anybodies guess, but I recall thinking 40 years ago it was in the death throes, so it may be quite a while longer yet.
The world ended in 1844! It ended several times before and since also. People once thought that the earth would be here forever but scientists now say that or sun will become a red giant and swallow up the earth and planets in the solar system. This will happen because it is the way the universe works and has nothing to do with any gods.
Aren't we supposed to be in the beginning times of the Age of Aquarius? (not to be confused with the hippie movement) ... when the Mayans said the world would end Dec. 2012, much has been written about that being an ending, and now starts the Age of Aquarius.. Yes, some people seem to take the "end" as total annihilation.
There have been over 200 times when it was said that Christ would be coming back. There have been wars on top of wars on top of more wars. People kill people every day. This planet earth is always changing and it doesn't have to ask us when or how or where that it is going to change. Jesus told us that if we hear people talking about end time to walk away from them. He told us the one one who knows when the end will be is God. It is a personal thing and we will all go through the fire when it is our time and nobody can tell you otherwise or when just by looking at outside things.
After reading a lot of world history I don't really think the world is any more evil or violent now then it has been in the past. I was caught up for over 30 years in a cult that predicted the end of the world. My mom always told me that people had been saying the end of the world was coming her whole life, but I thought I was wiser than she was and didn't listen to her. 1972 was suppose to be the big one for us and when the time came and went we were told it was all our fault. We weren't ready (hadn't been praying and studying the Bible enough, not sending in enough money to headquarters.) and it was coming soon. Tighten your belts and send in more money so God's work can move forward. So I personally am not concerned about any end time predictions, I'll just do the best I can each day and try to be positive, loving and kind. That's enough for me to work on.
