Mine was a 1956 Renault Dauphine when I was married with one child and going to college. I was going to buy a VW Beetle for economys sake but the Renault was bigger and less expensive.
1959 Austin Healey Sprite Mark I (aka Bugeye) I recall pulling up to a red light and picking up a dime from the street without lifting my butt off of the seat.
I almost bought a Sunbeam Tiger (the souped-up version of the Alpine), but it had too many problems, and parts were/are scarce. I believe Maxwell Smart (in the TV show) drove a Sunbeam.
My dad had one Simca: ...and (3) Nash Metropolitans (one hard top and 2 rag tops): I'll not burn up space here talking about the redneck paint job he did on one of them.
I had a VW Beetle overseas in the 60s. I don't remember what year it was but little arms came out from the door pillars for turn signals.
Mine did that too. I called them wings. I don't remember the year of mine either, but I paid $30 for it in the late 1960s.
I bought it cheap, $30, because some guy got mad at his girlfriend and poured fine birdseed in the gas tank. It would run for a few minutes and then stop. Her dad had tried to clear it out and finally gave up. I took the tank off and washed it out and after flushing the gas line and rebuilding the carb, finally had it running. I took it on a 50-mile trip and was blown off the road by a high side wind. I didn't wreck, so I got it back home and put a sign on it for $250. I sold it the next day.
