This movie is not for everyone, but if you want an audio / visual stimulating experience try this movie. My only recommendation would be to try to watch it with an open mind, and no distractions. I watch this movie a while back actually it was on VHS tape that I rented, I have not watched it since, but still remember the roller coaster feelings you get when watching this movie. Koyaanisqatsi a movie with the music score by Philip Glass. Koyaanisqatsi means "Life Out of Balance" by the Hopi Indians. From on line: "Koyaanisqatsi (1982): Director Godfrey Reggio's wordless poetic documentary juxtaposes slow motion and time-lapse footage of cities and nature with a haunting score by Phillip Glass to show the effects that cities and modern technology have on human life."
I've never heard of this movie. The name Philip Glass rings a bell. I found this thread on him here, but I've run across his works elsewhere. This is gonna bother me. Koyaanisqatsi is online at a few different sites. About 1 1/2 hours.
I found one site that appears to be the entire movie. All the other links seem to have had the movie removed, as though there was a copyright issue. Well, it seems I cannot paste just the url without having the forum convert it to a video. It's on Vimeo and the url suffix is 383612403
I don't care for most background music in movies but it seems to be on every video now. I would like to read the story it sounds interesting since I always loved history as a hobby.
I skimmed through the movie and it seems to have no dialogue or narrator...just scenes of industrialization and a sound track. Regarding videos: I would love to have a way to kill the music. Some people's choices are questionable.
One of the things I liked most about Gone With The Wynns was no background music like most videos have on YT now. But last couple years I see a song in theirs too now and then. Very disappointing. if I want to hear muiic I'll put on music.I do like some of the older movies soundtracts though.
Professional soundtracks are one thing. Amateurs inserting noise just to fill up space is something else entirely. And you can't mute the sound on an instructional video. It is really annoying.
This album cover was tweeted out the other day by Philip Glass's official account with no additional comment.
Reviews Koyaanisqatsi Roger Ebert September 26, 1983 "I give the definition because it is the key to the movie. Without it, you could make a sincere mistake. "Koyaanisqatsi" opens with magnificent images out of nature: great canyons and limitless deserts and a world without man. Through the use of speeded-up images, clouds climb the sides of mountains and speed across the sky, their shadows painting the landscape. Then the movie turns to images of smokestacks, factories and expressways". "There is an assumption on the part of the filmmaker, Godfrey Reggio, that we'll immediately get the message. And the message, I think, is that nature is wonderful, but that American civilization is a rotten despoiler that is creating a "crazy life." (Read More)
