I once had a peach orchard of one single tree, outside my apartment window. They were the best peaches ever, not a single worm, and too many to eat. When they fell and started attracting wasps, I had to hustle to keep them cleaned up so the apartment groundskeepers wouldn't cut the tree down.

We have grapevines outside of the back door. Like every other fruit, we usually lost the grapes to the marauding squirrels and birds; but this year our grape vines are totally loaded down with grapes, and they are growing really fast. I am hoping that there will be enough of a grape harvest that we actually get to eat some of them this year.
They are a dark purple Concord grape, at least that is what i think that they are.

We had more orchards around here years ago. Some sold out for developments. One here is a tourist attraction with a Petting zoo, tractor rides, apples...But I myself have apple trees, plum trees, a peach tree that will bear a little this year, one I grew from seed that won't bear for a couple of years. I have black and red raspberries and blackberries. And the grapes look great this year. Unfortunately the most fruitful are wild and growing on the septic mound.
I have some bush cherries that I never seem to get any fruit from Deer and birds do. Sad. Making bush cherry preserves with the kids is one of our fondest memories. To pit them you just squeeze the pits out into a bowl and throw the rest into a pot. Laughing and stickiness!

Surprised that Concords will grow that far south. Good luck keeping the critters away.
