Good morning. Another beautiful day here in Florida. A bunch of us are meeting, at the beach, for a pot luck lunch. Should be a good time.
The haircut went well this morning, I noticed the girl that did it, was wearing a tee shirt with "Keep Calm and Sleep Tight" on it in English. I have noticed recently that this motif in many forms is everywhere I go, it's history is interesting: Keep Calm and Carry On was a motivational poster produced by the British government in 1939 in preparation for the Second World War. The poster was intended to raise the morale of the British public, threatened with widely predicted mass air attacks on major cities Although 2.45 million copies were printed, and the plan in place for this poster was to issue it only upon the invasion of Britain by Germany, because this never happened, the poster was never officially seen by the public. They were all apart from a few, pulped after the war. In 2000, Stuart Manley, co-owner with his wife Mary of Barter Books Ltd. in Alnwick, Northumberland, was sorting through a box of used books bought at auction when he uncovered one of the original "Keep Calm and Carry On" posters. The couple framed it and hung it up by the cash register; it attracted so much interest that Manley began to produce and sell copies.Other companies followed suit, and the design rapidly began to be used as the theme for a wide range of products. Mary Manley later commented, "I didn't want it trivialised. But of course now it's been trivialised beyond belief." Two other posters designed at the same time.
Good Morning Everyone. Here in Louisiana the weather is cloudy with 90% chance of rain today and tomorrow. Wind gusts up to 30 mph and under a possible flood and tornado watch. It's a good day for indoor things and I'm glad there is nothing I have to run around outside for.
@Terry Page, thanks for the history of that poster. It's all over the place and with so many other sayings attached. I wondered where is came from, now I know!
Good morning everyone! I see that everywhere now too,Ruby and thanks Terry for the history lesson on it. Decent day here, high of 68! May do some errands, some cleaning, some internet...a well balanced day! Reality will be that I'm on my ipad all day but I start out with good intentions.
Another poster that Britain's propaganda machine produced during WWII was the "Dig for Victory" one shown below. This was essentially to encourage people to grow their own food, either in gardens or allotments. The poster dates from 1941.
Hello everyone ... @Terry Page for the lovely dinner pictures...and it looked like a yummy dinner. I'm running errands later and looking for an interesting picture for the bedroom wall. I'm sick of some of my pictures. Weather will be in the 60s..perfect...and so the day unfolds
Good rainy, blustery, thundery morning, y'all! Another band of severe weather is moving in here. It seems @Babs Hunt and I are having the same weather, and no doubt the other ladies in the greater Houston area are feeling the same house-shaking thunder I'm getting right now. Have a good day all, stay safe!
The only problem I have with printed tee shirts and my less than perfect eyesight these days, is I have to peer to read the motto, as with the hairdresser this morning, I am sure they think I am staring at their boobs
I have one of these tee shirts. It's hard to calculate how many people have said, "Where did you get that? I want one!" whenever I wear it. For non-British readers, the Daily Mail is a very conservative tabloid newspaper in the UK.
I had to get 'thundershirts' on my dogs this morning... their comfort wrap. *A side note - anyone with dogs and anxiety problems over things like thunder or fireworks, etc. These things work. Saves my sanity. http://www.thundershirt.com/
