The enamelware of old, like roasting pans, contained lead. You know the speckled roasting pans? Whodda thunk. But it concerns me because the enameled stuff from China could contain lead too. I even worry about mugs from there.
My daughter and I comb the thrift stores for older cast iron cookware. It is like an investment. The prices have gone up as other people are doing it too.
Last year hubby actually found a wonderful lodge dutch oven! He gave it to me for Christmas.
He is learning. Maybe when he hits 80 I will finally have him all broke in.
Cooking with cast iron helps keep the core in shape.;)

Ordered one of these online for a kid's birthday and had it sent to his office. We both have BMW motorcycles with boxer engines and I thought it would make a great conversation piece for his office.

Every time I used my cast iron dutch oven, the food tasted heavily of iron. I did not like it.

The Lodge website says the enameled line is "made in China to Lodge specifications", so hopefully no lead. Who knows.

I have a few of my mother's old cast iron skillets but I don't ever use them.

I was just looking at the brochure included with my pot. Apparently their "return policy" is that they will replace with another pot if they deem this one defective. (I suspect they'll use the "superficial cosmetic" excuse and refuse to exchange.) They won't guarantee which color they send as a replacement, either. So this is my first and last purchase from Lodge. If I ever want another piece I'll buy from Amazon or Walmart.

Must be something wrong with the iron. I still use my cast iron and never taste the iron. Call them and tell them to replace it.
I just made some corn sticks in my very old pans last week, maybe 100 years old and we always make corn bread in skillet which isn't that old.

My skillets are fine. I've been using them for 45 years. It's the dutch oven that left the iron taste in anything I cooked in it...mostly soups & stews. I gave it away a long time ago.

Hubby just ordered timing chain and brackets for his 87 truck came next day! That was surprising unlike the pain he is in from putting them in. He just got engine back together today. He has rebuilt the whole engine now. he takes absolutely nothing for pain for 2 years now, thank God!

Oh ok. I am leary of buying lots of things today I use to not think anything about.

Yeh, I bought these at a K-Mart type place (Zayre) that is no longer around. I paid less than $20 for 3 skillets and that dutch oven for $19. I picked up a cast iron griddle somewhere along the way and have a couple of non-sticks for cheese sauces & such. But the cast iron are my daily cooking utensils.

I sent an email with pictures of the crummy dutch oven and whaddayaknow?? They sent me a prepaid UPS return label. They also responded to my email that their "QC department" will "evaluate" the return for final disposition. My thought is, "dispose of THIS, Lodge QC!" If I have to get my credit card company to intervene then I'll do so.

In other news, I finally dealt the fatal blow to my Dell laptop. (Y'all might recall that I punch and fling it regularly so it has held on longer than I expected.) It was the absolute biggest dud I have ever purchased. I tried using my MacBook but I just don't like the OS, so I ordered a cheap Acer laptop with pretty good specs and Windows 11  from Amazon. It should be here tomorrow.

Exterior wall art which are wrought iron ,I want them for the outside wall of our home that under a fairly large verandah. ( we live near a beach)
I prefer to buy Aussie made however I couldn’t find anything but cheap/ nasty tin exterior wall that’s multi coloured …..so I bought these .

They come in a range of sizes I bought one that’s about 3 foot wide , it’s coming from Turkey.

I had a choice of a group of 5 fish or the 3 but I think the group of 3 will be ok for my purpose
