With my worst attack my lower left side was swollen I was in the hospital and giving high doses of amoxicillin with an IV. The next day the swelling went down I was on the road to recovery. I remember there was a specialist there who wanted to operate, but my GP said no let's wait and let the antibiotics work.
Fiber is good when you don't have the infection stay away if you do it will irritate the whole area.
Find the diet that keeps your stool regular, constipation is your enemy.
If you have to take a stool softener do it.
The doctors I talk to you back then all seem to agree that they never found a seed in one of the pockets that caused the infection, even so I tried to avoid eating anything hard to digest. I try to buy all my breads that are seedless, eat nuts moderately, stay away from corn. If I should eat this stuff I don't do it on a consistent basis.
If I should get that feeling in my divertic like it's acting up I switch over the soft foods for a few days and stay away from fruit and vegetables.
One of the doctors told me a story that a patient had an infection in one of the organs I can't remember which one and wihat they found was it had a fingernail in it that caused the infection. This patient evidently been biting his nails. Well back then I bit my nails constantly and swallow them the thought came to me that maybe this is what caused my infection so I stopped since I did I never got another infection and it's been over 20 years, up until then I had gotten an infection 3 years in a row. Who knows.

Thanks for the 1st-hand insights. That issue of eating seeds, nuts, etc. is another one of those things where our expectations were set, then they changed their minds. When I had my colonoscopy in 2018 and they found pouches, I was given a brochure on the current thought of seeds being OK. When I got this problem, my GP told me to avoid them "out of an abundance of caution." Hopefully, this antibiotic will clear things up.

I am the worst when it comes to taking medicine I have to set timers or I miss my doses.
I have faith that the antibiotic will work, you seem to have a mild case if this one doesn't work they'll find another that will.
As far as seeds even though they may not stick in the pocket just passing through might be enough of irritant to cause an infection.

Apple just came out with a med reminder that you can have on your phone , @John Brunner , and it probably alerts on your watch also. It is called a lock screen widget, so it is apparently already available on your phone, assuming that you have done the latest update to iOS 16.2.
Here is how it looks (screenshot from a video of the new stuff in iOS 16.2 ). I don’t use any widgets, but I know there are quite a few choices for people who like them.

That's cool. I'll check it out.

I use a combination of the general phone/watch Reminders app along with my Yahoo email Reminder function.

(I just looked and see I have not installed 16.2 yet. This daggone phone does not remind me as it should, but it's downloading now.)

Don’-t forget to also do your watch if it didn’t remind you. They are long updates this time, but a lot of new stuff being added.
Here is the little video that goes over the updates.
We can now do Karaoke on our phones of we have Apple Music.

Thanks. That's become my habit...update the phone, check the watch. I appreciate the vid. It's funny, I had a droid for the longest time, and--out of fear of the new technology--in a pretty sort amount of time I learned way more about iPhone functionality than I ever knew about the droid.

Well, I never thought I would say that I had a good urology appointment...but I did. Lots of concerns taken off of my back.

-I had my very first non-crisis cath swap.
-This location is small, so there is not a large pool of random cath-swappers for me to worry about...the 3 nurses here are all excellent (they have each swapped my cath), and they are not relocating. This is a MAJOR relief.
-Some staff are at this location on a temporary basis while their other offices are being refurbished. It was decided that my doctor is not going back (I would have followed him, but it would have put his nurse that I like into a larger pool.)

-My doctor is so upbeat & casual we may as well be watching football together as talking all things bladder.
-He raised the issues I had written down before I had a chance to bring them up:
--Do another 24 hour urine collection now that the bacteria is under control.
--Review the lab results from the nephrologist.
--Talk about a different path forward (he thinks that my bladder is not gonna recover.)
--He wanted to see the CT Scan from my diverticulitis (because it will show the bladder), and I told him I had already asked the main office to go retrieve it for him 'cause I knew he'd want to see it.

It was a good feeling. Rather than trying to arm-wrestle my previous doctors into actually doing something, every time this guy spoke he whittled away at the list of things I was gonna ask. Perhaps at some point things will change, but for now they're better than they have been since I started this journey.

Now I need to get my intestines under control...

I am very happy for you, @John Brunner. It feels like we are buddies, and I like to think you are getting good care. See, not all medicine is about money. There are still good people out there, but you have to search for them. Pressure from insurance and the government is trying to push good people out, but some are hanging in there!

I'm so grateful for your continued input and guidance, Don. You (and others) helped keep my sights on an exit from the nightmare. Providence put this doctor in my life.

I didn't follow my own advice four days ago I ate whole package of Peter Paul Almond Joys, plus 2 Snicker bars. I'm addicted to these, yesterday I wound up with pains in my lower left side, my wife has been pushing me to go to the doctor I finally went today winds up I have a diverticulitis attack. My doctor prescribed three medications, two are antibiotics Amox-Clav & Metronidazole, one is an anti-diarrheal Diphenoxylate.
Tomorrow I have to call for an appointment for a CT scan.
I have to eat less & eat soft foods, no fiber. This is going to be hard especially around the holidays.

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. I love me some Almond Joy. All my doctor's been saying to me is "Eat more fiber," even while in the throws of an episode. I had been eating candy bars after dinner to satisfy my sweet tooth, but I'm thinking that chocolate's not so good for this stuff. Dark chocolate seems to be OK because it's low in milk fat and high in beneficial cacao.

Another thing I read said if you've had one attack, you chances of a second one are 20%. That's probably greater than the odds for the general population, but it struck me as being low.

I got a feeling the coconut in Almond Joy is just as bad as the almond.

I was told to eat nuts. And even though the admonition against tiny seeds was lifted a long time ago, my doctor still told me to avoid them.
