Richard my part in this debate is basically just for entertainment, or to tell it like it used to be. I'll use a song, just replace the love affair with an American who only riminess about the nation they once knew.
Several things are listed above jail maintenance. Stating the sheriff's primary job is keeping the jail seems a bit silly. LA County Sheriff's Department employs 22,000 people. That must one heck of a jail since the entire Corrections Department of the State of California only employ about three times that number for all the prisons and other facilities. L.A. County must have one heck of a jail if it takes 22.00 people to staff it.
Los Angeles County has 10 million residents, as one point. Edit: the website says 18,000. But that is staff AND deputies etc. not just administrative positions.
I know someone who is a little over fifty years old who has studied voraciously for a decade or more, and is in contact with other self-educated or otherwise taught/educated /maybe officially/ who know the constitution better than most official sources, at least maybe they do, as they are seeking to , through legal means, "fix" what they can of this country. I don't hold out much hope for them or anyone else to be able to make real changes, but, who knows, maybe .... .... ...
Pay a visit to the nearest College law school library. Pick out the volume of Constitutional law of American Jurisprudence. Also the same in the CJS: Corpus Juris Secundum. They are Digests of case law from around the Country. Also try: ALR: American Law Reports. You would be surprised what is out there.
