Linda, I know that now but it never occurred to me before I posted it online. I had to ask someone why it got censored.

Don't worry bout gettin off topic Linda:) I enjoy what I like to think of as the "normal" flow of things. If we were all in a room talking, we'd wander off onto other things, makes the thread better if you ask me. And besides, people can always bring back the original.

Thing is, relating to others is part of this topic anyway. Some names we are called are in fun, some are hurtful. But @Terry Page mentioned "if we allow it" for example, to hurt us. I was taught to consider the source. That can be very hard, but it helps some. If someone is mean-spirited, I try to think about what kind of a day they've had, or what kind of a life. I'm not saying they're behaviour is acceptable, just that it isn't something I need to take to heart.

I wasn't putting you down Shirley, you wouldn't believe all the things I say that I shouldn't. Sometimes I don't know better and sometimes I DO know better but do it anyway. :)

Has anyone here ever been really mean to someone, called them names etc.? Did you feel good about it afterwards? I did this not too long ago, in the name of "getting" even with someone that I felt was mean-spirited. I called them names, and they did the same back to me. I guess we were very entertaining since folks were laughing at us! We'd both say, "oh, just kidding, lol" etc., so it wouldn't seem like we really disliked each other, but we did.

I felt so bad about the whole thing, I wasn't laughing, and I stayed away for a long time after. I didn't feel bad about what they called me, I felt bad about calling them names:( I just don't ever want to be like that. For selfish reasons too, I don't want to feel sick or bad.

Oh metoo sweetie:) I open mouth, insert foot on a regular basis. It takes a lot of practice to really think before I speak. I'm lazy, and don't like to practice that much either, :p:rolleyes:

I have been thinking about this whole thing for the last week or so; and while the proverbial leopard can't change its spots, it is also true that a human being (and even a leopard) can look at their mistakes and change their behavior.
I know that in my life, I have made many mistakes and said things that brought bad results and hurt people, and those learning experiences have helped me to change and become a better person.

Sometimes, external issues can affect our behavior.
When my ex-husband was working on a job that he disliked or a forman that he didn't get along with, then he would come home grumpy and growly and ready for a fight, even though I was happily waiting at the door to greet him and give him a kiss.
On the other hand, when he had a job that he enjoyed, he came home happy to see me and give me a kiss , and was a much more enjoyable person.

So, even though I do not automatically assume that someone has changed, I always appreciate that people have given me the benefit of the doubt sometimes, and I try hard to do that as well, and just give someone a chance to prove themselves again.

Yes, Yvonne that's partly true and everyone has bad days and can be mean or grouchy and I'll give them another chance because I'm sure they're really not a bad person. Sometimes though you come across a couple people in life who just can't be nice and have purposely hurt others for no reason except that it was fun. I'm just not so forgiving of those people.

Wise words Yvonne, there is often something going on in the lives of people that may on the surface appear to be rude or uncaring, while it's no excuse it is sometimes difficult to overcome your immediate problems, and behave in a normal friendly fashion.
We humans are a lot like icebergs where much is hidden beneath the surface.

yes that is so true and everyone can have their off day...or even days , but not when it comes to people who are consistently and deliberately downright nasty to some people all the time regardless of what day , week or month it is, regardless of the fact that the people they're being nasty to have never said a bad word to them ... ..... but the complete opposite to others when it suits them..that's deliberate and calculating!! Those types never change their spots... it's ingrained in their nature..they just learn to mask it when it suits them.

....you can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all the people all of the time''..
