Ft Bragg Renamed

    Ft Bragg (North Carolina) one of the largest U.S. Army posts in the U.S. changed its name to Ft Liberty. The name was changed today, June 2nd, 2023.

    The name came about because the name glorified a Confederate general. In a move to make African American service personnel feel more comfortable and welcome. The name change was suggested by a Gold Star mother who lost her son in combat.

    As our readers may know, statues of Confederate war "heroes" are, slowly but surely, being taken down all across America.

    I don't mean to start an argument , but it is quite the same as having statues of Nazis constantly being in the face of Jews. OR, statues of famous Japanese military "heroes" standing along side of the Bataan Highway, the road where the infamous Bataan Death March took place in WW 2.

    You may have a point there. Democrats hate the simple fact that a Republican administration was the political party to ban slavery in America,

    Side note: It takes a very, very long time to completely change the thinking of a nation. 163 years to go from slavery to full participation as American citizens. 163 years and still counting.

    I served 5 years and I knew the US Army was broken in 1970, exactly why I left. Our country is a flower bed of ignorant people. Now the real question is how many will show when it looks like we're going down. My Army time was old Army, you didn't open the day room until after duty hours which was around 5pm, no ifs or buts it was closed. No Beer dispensers in the barracks, had you been caught with any alcohol you could expect some pretty hard treatment in the coming days. I was at Fort Campbell Ky in early 66, the WACs had their own section of barracks away from any male barracks. I pulled guard duty one time while waiting for my orders sending me to Alvarado for an MOS change, the sgt of the guard was pretty clear about my not walking across the street to the WAC side, it was a court martial offense to enter their space. Today they all live together and of course I'm sure they love it.

    We haven't really fought a war of survival since WWII and our forces have been gutted by these politicians like biden and nancy and the rest of the slugs. I was wondering should we ever need to fight another conventional war where are the troops going to be trained or billeted. They will be putting them into your homes like England did in WWII. It is a shame to close our oldest installations such as Fort Ord Ca, 90 years of service and they just walked away and let it all rot down, then had the nerve to charge taxpayers hundreds of millions to put plastic around the old barracks simply because it had asbestos in some of the old barracks.

    Now I would like to know which scumbag congress man or woman got the contract to remove the so called contamination. It never bothered them to have 10 million men cycle through Fort Ord over the decades and sleep in these barracks and by the way most of us still living are not dying because we slept in a barracks at Fort Ord Ca, or any other barracks in the Army. The Marines of course as of lately is a totally different story with severe and deadly contamination. Someone wasn't doing their job and it is surprising they haven't tried to blame someone instead of the politicians over seeing our military housing and living conditions.

    To what am I referring ? The Civil War began in 1860. The 14th amendment to the Constitution was ratified in 1868 . It states, " All persons born, or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States, nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor to deny any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

    From those days, up until day, a long series of cases have come before SCOTUS which have at first denied, then, finally, reaffirmed the 14th amendment.
    Recall, Brown Vs. Board of education in 1954. The federal gov't had to intervene to force some Southern States to abide by those laws. It took the U.S. military 75 plus years to fully integrate.

    So from 1860 to today (2023) is 163 years.

    Good morning to all-
    I am a lifelong resident of the South- born and bred here. The Confederate
    "heroes" were held in extremely high esteem by nearly all white residents- many kids named after R.E. Lee and such like folks.
    But the truth is and can't be denied by anyone with a lick of sense and lick of honesty, these Confederates were traitors. Simple and pure, that's the truth.
    States Rights and all of the other excuses for their betrayal is garbage.

    These people were not heroes. They were traitors.

    Seems to me they were not traitors at all, they just didn't care to be bullied by a bunch of thieves and cut throats trying to steal their farms and production in the south. It might be a hard argument to convince people things were better using slavery as an excuse, since the Blacks were never given the same rights as every other citizen, reconstruction was over with in 10 years and Republicans elected cut a deal with Democrats to remove all federal forces from the south. Things went back to the way it was before the war and no progress was fourth coming until in our time. People living during that period did not think like we think today and to call them traitors is a bit harsh. They fought another government attempting to take what belonged to them and their government. It is not a one sided story like some like to make it to be.
