The peak of my day on Friday lingers into today. Me/I and my stair-step granddaughters watched in awe and excitement as their baby brother took his first steps.
Peak: I sharpened a kitchen knife on a whetstone. Watched a YouTube video. First time it ever worked. The knife is almost dangerous now. Had just started searching for a knife sharpener online and decided to give it one last try. Yes!!!! Pit: Tried to do a simple job I've been putting off for years — add 2 handles to a new(er) kitchen cabinet. They came off my old kitchen cabinets when I installed a dishwasher, so they all match. The screws were too short to go through the wood on the new one. Had to recess them. It turned out to be a big job. Then I lost one of the screws.
Peak: Accepted the estimate from a moving company (Arrow/Mayflower). So, we continue to pack and get ready. Pit: It will cost us close to $8,000 for the move. Why? We have no choice but to move on a holiday weekend (Labor Day). We have both our 2-bedroom apartment and a 10 x 10 storage unit about 5 miles from our apartment. A so-called "shuttle" van truck will have to do the pick-up, since there isn't enough room for a moving tractor/trailer to come into the complex. Along with those things, the cost of moving has gone up since we moved in August 2019. It's costing us more to move 810 miles (here to Henderson, NV, than it did for us to move 1,788 miles (Jacksonville, Fl to here). Then again, our last move wasn't on a holiday weekend and the moving company didn't have to go two different places for a pick-up.
I am glad that things are coming together for you and your wife for the upcoming move, and hoping that the weather in Nevada will work better for you than living in Colorado has been. Looking forward to pictures of the new area once you have settled in ! Will you be driving your truck all the way from Colorado to Henderson when you move ?
You mean our 2005 Dodge Durango, which is classified as an SUV, not a truck, yes. It's 810 miles, with an overnight stop in Grand Junction and overnight at South Point Hotel/Casino in Las Vegas. Grand Junction Ramada will cost us $79 and South Point will cost us $69, so two excellent prices for a nice/descent room. And, believe this or not, Yvonne, the high temperature this coming Sunday in Henderson (which is very well known for it's summer heat) will on be 77 degrees. But, that 77 comes with rain/t-storms.
@Cody Fousnaugh We used - Bueluer - not spelled correctly.. a part of Mayflower. It cost us $6500 to move 389 miles in Dec. 2022. We had 2 bedroom apt. but the garage and all his dang machinery stuff is what cost us. It is based on items and weight then mileage. We had excellent service though and the crew was fast and efficient. Brown Box wanted $11,000 ! Hope you have a smooth transition, and can stay put for awhile.
The "stay put for awhile", well? If signing a 1-year lease is the same as "stay put for awhile", then that will happen. But, that 1-year will give us enough time to find out if we can handle the summer heat. If not, will head north where the winters aren't nearly as bad as where we are now. But, before "heading north", will take a trip to both Reno and Carson City to check them out. We really don't want to move yet again (from Henderson), but as the old saying goes, "people gotta do what they gotta do".
Peak or Pit (don't really know) LOL: A week from today (Sunday Sept 3rd) we finish loading the back of the Durango in the morning, have some breakfast out and then head for Grand Junction Ramada for the night. Moving company will be here this coming Friday. Are we tired of packing.........oh, heck yes! Anyway, PLEASE wish us luck! Most likely I won't be writing anything in the forum until we get to Henderson, Nevada.
Wishing & praying you Get to henderson safely and stress free. Hope the moving truck with your "stuff" delivers on time without any damages. I Just recently done some unpacking For me it was tedious and tiring, I hope you get through it smoothly. Good luck on your move.
I also hope that the trip and the whole move goes well for you and your wife, @Cody Fousnaugh . I am sure you will be pretty busy once you start the trip, buy please stop by and let us know that you made it safely to Henderson once you are able to get online long enough to let us know how you are doing. I really hope that this turns out to be a wonderful place for you to live ! Praying for safe travels for you on the road and no car troubles.
@Cody Fousnaugh .. yes we wish a good and safe journey but most of all hope this will be your happy place.
I too wish you guys good luck. Whenever I've thought of moving again, I chose choice B which would be to just burn everything down and live out of my car.
