..and even if you aren't interested, someone you know (friend or family) might want to take note. I can tell you I'm tapering off about the slowest way possible from a benzo, and it's rough, but for the most part, I've had very, good mentors Denise https://www.washingtonpost.com/wellness/2023/09/02/xanax-klonopin-benzo-withdrawal-addiction/
The only time I heard of Benzodiazepines was during the manslaughter trial of Dr. Conrad Murray, when officers testified about several grocery bags full of them all over Michael Jackson's bedroom. And each vial had a false name on it.
One of the interesting health benefits of the L. Reuteri yogurt is supposed to be that it gives people a sense of happiness, and caring about other people, and seems to do more than an anti-depressant does because it stimulates oxytocin, which relieves depression and induces peace and happiness. I have not noticed much difference, but I am naturally a pretty cheerful person anyway; but I have read testimonies from people who did have depression when they started making this special yogurt and it helped them a lot.
I wish you the best @Denise Evans. Providers tend not to pay attention to the long-term effects of the meds, and if the patient reports good results make no effort to look at it. This not only occurs with addictive drugs but with things like PPIs for heartburn and GERD as well. It sounds like you feel you are in good hands....
Never heard of this Yogurt but I also don't make yogurt... Buy commercial stuff when I do and like Coconut Milk yogurt. Benzos bad news.....I did some yrs ago, valium for a while and then some lorazapam but Totally off those bad boys.
This is actually not a true yogurt, @Joy Martin . It is a strain of probiotic Lactobacillus Reuteri that is cultured in milk or cream, and is then a powerhouse of good probiotics. One of the things this probiotic does is stimulate oxytocin, which makes people feel good, and helps get rid of depression. Since @Denise Evans was talking about having depression, I thought this might be something she might want to make. As John Brunner pointed out in the gut health thread, you can buy some probiotics and even some yogurt or kefir that have the L.Reuteri probiotic bacteria in it; but there is really not enough in any commercial product to even make a difference, healthwise. It is as easy to make as any other yogurt, and tastes like yogurt once it is cultured, and almost like sour cream, because it is so creamy. I am making it and taking it for the probiotic benefits, and I do feel like it is helping me already, and I have only done it for a little over 2 weeks now.
I drink Keifer daily because the Nutritionist at the Cardiac Care Center recommended it during recovery time at home and they started it not long after surgery. Also ground flax seed which I use everyday.I'm not sure what it does but it did help in the healing process and the flax, holy smokes it makes your hair and nails right nice.I DID notice that part.
Do you make your own kefir, @Julia Curtis ? We have a whole long, long thread here about kefir if you are interested in reading more about that, and if you do make your own kefir, you might be interested in reading about the L. Reuteri yogurt as well. I have tried making kefir from grains, but have a terrible time with it, so I mostly just use the starter packets and they can make a lot of kefir before you need to use a new packet. Here is the link for the kefir thread: http://www.seniorsonly.club/threads/kefir.1971/
I use the starter packs because I need to keep it simple, the more complicated it is the more chance I'll just got buy it from the health food store and it's pricey there.
It can be far worse than rough! Detoxing from Benzos can be fatal. Might I suggest contacting a local recovery center for information about help?
Rehabs are notorious for weaning people off drugs way too fast and I'm talking maybe 3 months at most and maybe that's probably for people that can actually afford one of those places I'm in really good hands between my MD and all the people that have personal experience that I've met weaning off of benzos I'm doing great I'm doing a very slow taper I've only tapered about 40% in five going almost 6 months so I'm doing just fine people that are having the most problems are those that go cold turkey off of a benzodiazepine because they haven't looked into the drug to see what they're up against by doing a cold turkey I wouldn't recommend that to my worst enemy
I'm halfway finished my tablet, pretty hopeful on the healing of Gaba and Glutamate receptors. Long story, I've researched all the material I could get my hands on One thing I know for certain that's helped me is my regular exercise and nutrition. Some people are suffering, even after 2 weeks of taking the benzo's I can't recommend more doing a very tiny taper, then holding that until your body feels stable/normal. I've been tapering, not more than 6% a month since March.
