I had a little vertigo several months ago, but I don't know how much to blame this stuff on age, or on being sedentary, or on being retired with minimal variety in my daily surroundings or activities. There are a lot of other changes that this time of life brings besides "age."
I had some vertigo problems a few years ago, and I believed I was developing Meniere's Syndrome, as my hearing was dropping out at the same time. I determined that it was BPV eventually, but it caused me great trouble for a period of time. Bright lights would cause vertigo sometimes, and occasionally, I would be driving down the road and the world would start spinning--very dangerous stuff. I started doing the positional exercises and the vertigo vanished and has not yet returned. https://www.healthline.com/health/benign-positional-vertigo
Informative link. Years ago I experienced similar symptoms and the doctor did an ear irrigation. I was shocked at the wax that had accumulated in my ears.
Yes. The cause varies. In some cases the crystals in the ear canal are displaced and need to be unblocked. There is a Youtube video which shows you what to do. In my case, the vertigo was caused by the Covid virus. I was given exercises to do, which seem to have helped. One of the problems is that it comes on suddenly, with little warning and, depending on where you are at the time, that could be very inconvenient.
I've had a few minor instances of it, so compared to none in the past... yeah, I guess it's worse. I keep finding new things about getting older, some are a total shock when I try to do something "trivial" and find I just can't any more. One I have in mind is pretty laughable. That is it's funny to me now that I'm not in the awkward situation. I've set myself a goal though to get myself back to where I can overcome it again. People laugh and say "you're just old, forget it" but I take it as a personal challenge.
My being more sendentary with a bum leg caused me to lose my weight lifting ability. It surprised me last fall when I went to help unload hay and couldn't. What the hay?! I have been working on muscles to compensate and yesterday was moving bales much easier. Will keep working on it. We CAN claw our way back.
Back in the 80's under much marital stress, I started having all kinds of stability issues. Doctors thought I had a stroke ..nope. When I walked to me things looked tilted to the side some, and up closer than they should be. i should perhaps mention this all started on a Halloween night, it was unusually cold and wet.Two very overweight neighbors were taken me and my girls trick or treating. We lived in the country and this was they way they did it then. The couple turned on the ac! I literally freezing. Oldest daughter put extra coat on me pushed me into seat and climbed on top. I was shaking uncontrollably. This started my journey of doctors, and hearing loss. It took years for me to even seem normal again. After moving back to a normal sized town,a doctor said he felt like it was meningitis of some nature. So it had been untreated for long time and finally went away, but left me with hearing loss that worsened over the years. Back to the question- yes this caused my equilibrium to be way off . However I have not had that issue since.
