This was the heaviest storm of the year, which is not unusual for March, as much as we always hope for spring in March.
I had to shovel a path to the driveway and then dig out the car. Fortunately, and very kindly, a man with a Kubota tractor helped me out greatly with the driveway, saving me a lot of work because the driveway is always deeper and more compacted where the town's plow deposits it. Then, I had to shovel a path to the oil tank on the other side of the yard because we're going to need a tank of oil tomorrow. They will walk through the snow, but I don't like to do that to them. Lastly, I walked through waist-deep snow to the back of the house because I was - by then - too cold, wet, and tired to shovel a path back there in order to rake as much of the snow off of our back room as I could. I'm done for today.
It varies a lot from winter to winter. The earliest I've seen snow here was the last part of August, but in some winters, we don't get snow until after Christmas. Some winters, it's pretty much done by mid-March, but one winter we had a snowstorm in May. All of these are unusual, though. On average, we'll get some snowfall in late September or October, but it doesn't stick until December, and, while we nearly always get some fierce snowstorms in March, it's usually gone by the end of the month.
That looks like a lot of work, , on the bright side at least you won't get overheated like us down here.
Thus far, our storm has been a dud. Although it's been snowing since about 3:00 am, the snow has been light and has been melting about as fast as it comes down, leading to only about an inch of accumulated snow. If it continues through tonight and the temperatures drop, we might have some accumulation, but I'm not expecting much.
I'm always impressed when people know about the ways of snow. I'm from warmer climes, and had/have no idea. Anyway, @Ken Anderson, glad your snow is "do-able".
We, too, are expecting snow tonight and tomorrow. 4 to 6 inches are predicted, so we'll see how that goes. The plow on the tractor can handle that much with ease. If we get a lot, I will have to re-mount the snowblower and I really don't want to do that. Temps in the mid-20s F. at this time and snowing lightly.
