My new Keurig coffeemaker arrived today. It has a feature that will brew a "shot" of strong coffee for the fru-fru drinks with frothed milk. I wanted to find some really strong k-cups to use for that and noticed these on the Keurig website... Amazon also has them so I ordered a box and they are surprisingly good when brewed as a regular cup of coffee. Of course, I really love strong coffee! I will be testing the "shot" once I get the new machine set up.
I pretty much drink 1-2 cups every day. Keurig is just way too easy not to use one for me. I do occasionally brew it, but rarely anymore. If I want to make a Latte I just use the small cup setting and do 2 pods with the heated creamer. Little chocolate nestles creamers makes a pretty decent mocha.
I'm still getting two bags of Black Rifle Coffee each month, but I've changed my order to one bag of Decaf and letting them choose the second bag. Drinking Decaf makes me feel old or wussy, like I'm not man enough to drink real coffee.
What made you go to decaf? I tried "half-caf" back when I was having chemo and my heart rate was sky-high, but I never did like it.
Other than doctors nagging me about coffee, not for any particular reason other than that they were taught that coffee was bad, there isn't anything in particular. However, I have long realized that I can't distinguish between caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee, so I thought I'd try it. My only quarrel with it is that Decaf comes in only one flavor, Decaf, while all of the other coffees I received have different flavors, strengths, and so on. I buy half-caff for the Keurig sometimes and don't hate it. I'll probably get bored with the Decaf after a while and change the order.
Don't worry too much about coffee unless you OD on the stuff. Most Americans get the majority of the antioxidants in their diet from coffee.
I just realized that I haven't made a pot of coffee in at least two weeks, which is down from a high of two pots a day. For that matter, my last bag of coffee was decaf. I haven't been entirely without coffee, since I've had a few cups of McDonald's coffee and an occasional K-cup, but this is the least amount of coffee that I've drank in a quite some time. I always drink less during the summer, but this is ridiculous. So, while I am not particularly thirsty for coffee, I am making a pot now.
Have you noticed that when you wake up in the morning, you're actually "awake" and not in a groggy state until you get that first cup in you?
Once again during a recent power outage I was glad that I had made some "frivolous" purchases of old-style drip coffeepots on Ebay. I have a gas stove and used a tea kettle to boil water, so we could always have brewed coffee even while sitting in the dark. I have used the drip pots many times now.
I have a really old Pyrex glass percolator... probably from the 70's. I could use it but I am not good at timing perked coffee.
The manual ones should have a glass viewer that can be used to determine whether the coffee looks dark enough. Yeah, it does take some trial and error.
