India seems to be cracking down on Christians. This guy has a world-wide missionary network, and he is trying to train people in Bible study:
It's tough to tell what the real motive is. India's constitution includes Freedom of Religion. From what I just read, there has always some movement from one religion to the other (<2% of he population) that kind of seems to net out, with no one gaining and no one losing. The big difference is that Christianity actively tries to convert people, and the new law in India is not against Christianity...it's against proselytizing. Christianity had been in India since Christianity's inception. I wonder if this new law in response to something relatively recent? For the curious, here is the %Population belonging to each religion in India: Hinduism (79.8%) Islam (14.2%) Christianity (2.3%) Sikhism (1.7%) Buddhism, Adivasi, Jainism, Other and No Religion make up the rest (2%.)
PM Modi is leading a movement to take India back to its cultural roots. Like here, the constitution may not be observed if it gets in the way of the agenda. Russia and many other nations (like Hungary) are moving back to their cultural historical roots. Some in China are also leading that nation towards Confucianism where it doesn't conflict with the Communist agenda. We are moving the other direction apparently.
Even though Christians are reportedly such a small % f the population in India, I wonder if the problem is that it frees the lower castes (who make up most of the Christians) from their birth status.
Free to be truthful, and to be faithful subjects wherever they may be - living lives of sacrifice and obedience instead of self-desirings and so-called 'independence'. RE a few ideas here came up while searching for the Scripture quote below concerning slaves in God's View.. The Rich Man and Lazarus E.W. Bullinger "In dealing with this Scripture, and the subject <any subject worthwhile> it is important that we should confine ourselves to the Word of God, and not go to tradition. Yet, when nine out of ten believe what they have learned from tradition, we have a thankless task, so far as pleasing man is concerned." (many pages in between) "No! the Lord was at the crisis of His condemnation of the Pharisees for their false traditions which made the Word of God of none effect, and He makes use of those very teachings, adapting them to the great end of condemning them out of their own mouth." ===================================== "MSG (to those born of God) : Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself. He had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. Not at all. When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human! Having become human, he stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process. He didn’t claim special privileges. Instead, he lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death—and the worst kind of death at that—a crucifixion." ======================================= (to those who are slaves, with an owner) "biblegateway.com › passage › ?search=Ephesians 6:5-9&version=NIV Ephesians 6:5-9 - BibleGateway.com 5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. 6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. 7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, 8 because you know that the ..."
