It happens to most people. In general, humans are shy and fear rejection.

Well, we have no problem talking with those that enjoy/know professional rodeo, like we do. If I see a lady or man wearing a t-shirt and/or baseball cap depicting anything about rodeo, ranching or farming, I will immediately talk to them. Just the way we are around people that have those interests/lifestyle.

@Cody Fousnaugh - I figure you both appear unapproachable. If you are continuously wearing your rodeo style clothing. Because the way you dress can imply your interests and perhaps the people you do meet, do not want to get into a conversation about that subject. Also you must think outside the arena in order to carry on a conversation . Are you letting Them talk ? Just and idea there pat'ner;)

Well, most likely, when dressed like our Avatar, we are unapproachable to "big city" type folks. That would be understandable and obvious. We love to talk about the things we like, which very much includes rodeo and farming. We don't talk about a "wide range" of things and shouldn't have to. Most existing, and former, rodeo contestants don't have much in-common with those that don't discuss rodeo or the western lifestyle. Farmers and ranchers seem to be the same way. IOW, farmers, ranchers and rodeo folks have their own "language" which is very different from those that love "big city" living. Even though we have to live in a "big city" type environment, as in an apartment, our apartment is completely decorated in Western/Rodeo/Cowboy decor.

I let people talk, but I generally talk more. If I disagree with what someone is talking about, I'll tell them "I don't agree", because I don't. Plain and simple! And, if a person is getting carried away with using foul language, I'll remind then that we are Christians and don't use that type of language. Neither of us like the "F" word and won't continue a conversation when that is used.

Well, Hedi, if you were to look at it deeper, there are older Baby Boomers that can't talk to the younger generation about certain things. Veterans of Vietnam can't. There are those that don't like talking, or having, firearms. We will discuss the topic with anyone that is interested.

If we have to "stay in the arena" and be ignored by "big city" folks, that's ok. We simply don't have much, to any, interest in what those folks talk about. We love the "western way of life" and for those that don't, that's up to them.

I really don't expect you, and some others, on this forum to understand us, and our interests, at all. Ken's forum isn't that kind of forum.

Yep, that is the way of the Texan ranch folks. My father in law was one that never knew a stranger. I am a bit that way and my wife gets embarrassed at times. I like what James Hinton said.
