I have a couple of cookbooks from the 1950s put out by the same church (Christ Hamilton United Lutheran Church in Stroudsburg, PA). It's still an active congregation.

We've been going through stuff for the past week or so I've been putting out tons of garbage. We decided we'd rent a 10 yd dumpster which we* filled today.
    * My daughter did most of the work. kept telling me to sit down your in the way, she was right of course.
I have been going through stuff and throwing out what I really don't need but I did find some good stuff that I'm keeping.
Carport has been cleaned out except for a few items that I'm storing there temporarily that have to be cleaned then I want to store in the garage. We found five projectors 8mm (2x), 16mm, Super8, 16mm sound. Whenever I saw a good price on a projector at garage sales I buy it. I had hoped to find the time to play my old home movies and record them on a digital camera.
On a different note.My wife's favorite cookbook is McCall's, Especially their apple pie recipe.

Those roll-off dumpsters are great. I ordered one in 2010 and got rid of half the stuff in the basement. It's full again, and I've been shopping around for another. Maybe this month.

I watched Joe Biden's "Big Boy News Conference", Many news personalities consider this to be one of his better performances. If that's the best he's got
this country is in trouble. I Will admit that under all his stumbling for words, Sluring of words, misidentification of people, if you unravel his statement he did seem to have A decent knowledge base, especially of foreign affairs, it all just gets mixed up. Reminds me of my mother-in-law when she had dementia, Their thoughts start with a statement that takes twist & turn.
I haven't seen this movie in a long time but this whole Scenario , remind me of the movie "Being There" starring Peter Sellers.

I made time to go through a few of the letters, In one of them from the 70s was this typed poem, Actually I'm not sure it qualifies as a poem, Whatever it is , it's interesting , so I thought I'd posted here.

The one thing about going through stored stuff is it brings back memories.
Back in the seventies I was in between jobs I was going stir-crazy, my wife suggested I find something to keep myself busy. After watching an artist on one of the PBS channels showing how to paint a landscape I said to myself I can do that. So I went out and spent about $15 on Art Supplies, oils, canvas, pallet, and a book. The book was how to paint portraits, in it was a picture of a chinaman, which I tried to paint. I thought it came out terrible, However it did keep me busy for about three hours, my wife put it in a frame and we hung in a dark upstairs hallway. I think she tried to cheer me up with this gesture because I was having a hard time finding a job. Eventually it wound up in our attic and forgotten, until now.

I've been sitting in my living room chair since 4:30am, trying to relax my back. I woke up with a lot of pain in my back, it going around to my front lower sections.
I've been doing a lot of heavy physical work outside cleaning out a garage and surrounding area. The garage is now termed a shed because I removed the garage doors years ago.
What happened was the original homeowner insurance policy was dropped by the insurance company because of the fire. It was difficult but we found the new company. They did an inspection of the property and housing, and threatened to cancel the policy if we didn't repair or remove the shed. We decided to have the shed demolished this Saturday, so I spent the last four or five days emptying it out and saving the bare minimum that we really need and want. I did save about 700 of my vinyl albums, but I did dump about the same amount and it makes me sick.
There were two truckloads that got dumped, I salvaged my gardening supplies and tools, outdoor extension cords, and one toy. The shed is a 10'x20' and it was packed.
The only thing left to do is clean around the outside of the shed, I should be able to finish that today, if my back holds.
Can't wait to be done so I can take a day and just relax. Been taking a lot of potassium for cramps, my muscles are not used to this much activity, 30 years ago when I was 50 this job would have been a piece of cake.

Too bad, with that door it is kind of cute. You would think they could just not insure it. Not like it has a wood burner in it. Sore muscles means we need to use them more. I say that all the time. but do I do it?
    Feel better soon.

The shed is old, we are living here 50 years and it was built way before that. When we purchase the house, they said it was a garage. However, it could not have been used as a garage because the flooring was made up of coal. It was difficult to walk on, I couldn't see how a car tires could not get damaged riding on it. I covered it with a wood floor. Years later The barn style garage doors were starting to fall apart so I replaced them with a wall made of T1-11 outdoor panels.
The insurance company claimed that the roof was worn needed to be replaced. The roof did not leak.I couldn't see what they were talking about Except for the front part being a little uneven. When I examine the roof frame work inside, it was in bad condition. The Panels I put in many years ago we're starting to rot and would have to be replaced. When we Priced, having it repaired or torn down it was more economical to have it torn down.

I didn't mention it earlier Because I wasn't going to do anything about it at that time. But I had a change of heart due to my wife's nagging me.
This morning after going to the bathroom, My urine Was dark brown with tinges of red highlights. My wife said " You might have a UTI or kidney stones.
The doctor tested a urine sample did not find any infection but did see blood. Possibly could be kidney stones So they Give Me a script for a cat scan "stonehunt". I'm Scheduled for Aug 2. The Doc also said the Physical work And heavy sweating could cause dehydration, which could cause this. They also gave me a blood test, Said They couldn't do a complete panel because because I ate today. They want to check my psa(?) for prostate issues.
I have maybe a couple of hours of work to be done outside, my Wife said leave it. My Wife just came in she move 3 of the 4 large flower pot, out of the way for the demolition tomorrow. I told her I will finish up out there later, she looks beat. At least she tried.

The hits just keep on comin', huh @Tony Page? If there's blood yet no infection, and your back hurts going to your abdomen, you likely got kidney stones. I've had them off & on since 1990. Treatment depends on location & size.

Keep us posted. And drink lots of water.

Also: do you have well water or municipal water? If you have well water you may want to start drinking bottled. In either case you might want to test for hardness (minerals in the water.) You can get some test strips and/or have a lab test it. A hardness-only test is relatively cheap. I just had it done and the guy threw in other tests because he has a $50 minimum.

Here are test strips I just got: Amazon link. 150 for $11.

I know these work because I tested my softened water and I tested my unsoftened water, and the strips were accurate on both (as best one can tell by comparing shades of brown.) At the very least they can tell you the degree of hard/soft.

    Man, I'm so sorry.

Just an aside @Tony Page the PSA may not be much help for guys our age unless you have been getting them annually or every two years. Us old guys need to watch for "sudden" jumps in values as random values are very difficult to interpret.
