As long as there is no punishment for crimes, they will be on the rise.

Then we can give the corrupt government more power over us to fix it.

My recent search for a spare tire had me reading a lot of tire discussions on the GM and Cadillac forums. One thing I had not considered for electric vehicles is that a standard jack will not work for changing a tire on them. First, they require a 6,000 lb jack and a Cadillac technician wrote this about the Cadillac Lyric... "Never lift lyriq from one jack point. Vehicle must be on a four post lift. Battery can warp. I am certified Cadillac technician." So having a flat tire on an EV must be a real PITA.

I don't have an electric vehicle and this is one more reason why I never will.

    Reuters

Stellantis (STLAM.MI) said Monday it is recalling 194,000 plug-in hybrid electric Jeep SUVs to address fire risks after 13 fires were reported, and it told owners to park outside and away from other vehicles until recall repairs are completed.

The Italian-American automaker is recalling some 2020 through 2024 model year Jeep Wrangler and 2022 through 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrids. The issue involves a battery component, the company said.

The Chrysler-parent company said the fires occurred when the vehicles were parked and turned off. It estimates 5% of affected vehicles may have the defect.

Stellantis said vehicle risk is reduced when the battery charge level is depleted and said owners are advised to refrain from recharging and should park away from structures or other vehicles. The company said a remedy is imminent.

The recall includes 154,000 vehicles in the United States, 14,000 in Canada, 700 in Mexico and nearly 26,000 outside North America. The company said the recall was prompted by a routine company review of customer data that led to an internal investigation.

Popular opinion is that Jeep will push off doing battery replacements (which are the root cause of the fires) as long as possible. I wonder what happens when these fires spread to structures. Are homeowner's insurance companies covering the damages and then suing the EV manufacturers?

I also wonder what the people in the southeast who are affected by the power outages after the hurricane are doing if their only vehicle(s) are EVs? They can't charge 'em, and they can't evacuate if they are ordered to do so. At least with gas and diesel you can store enough at home to get you out of dodge should you need to do so.

I think that's saltwater; otherwise, rain + a bad gasket could be deadly.

A truck carrying a load of lithium ion batteries turned over last week and fires were going on for a couple of days and some main roads in Long Beach terminal areas were shut down.....

Sounds like some changes are coming. The environmentalists are going to riot. (Mostly peaceful)

"The Trump agenda for the U.S. auto industry is one that, if enacted, would upend the strategy Detroit's automakers have spent billions of dollars pursuing: The transition to electric cars.

Republicans will look to freeze fuel economy standards for at least a decade — which would slow EV adoption and anger environmentalists. A second Donald Trump administration may also look to take away California's ability to set its own strict emissions standards. Also, it is likely to repeal parts of the Inflation Reduction Act, including the $7,500 tax credit consumers receive now toward the purchase of an EV, a benefit that's helped the Detroit automakers sell the cars.Trump's agenda could also include rewarding companies with big tax breaks if they build cars in the United States. These initiatives were laid out to the Detroit Free Press". https://www.yahoo.com/news/car-dealer-us-senator-says-171032870.html

Get ready. They are saying this will not be like the first Trump Administration. It will be much more ruthless in pursuing its goals and will not take obstruction lightly. We'll see....

From what he and his team have been saying, it sounds like it. For example, he wants the resignations of all upper-level military who were involved in our disastrous exit from Afghanistan by noon on January 20, and RFK is telling FDA officials to maintain their records and pack their bags. To get on-topic in this thread, I am interested in the impact of a Trump presidency on the current move to electric vehicles. Trump is not opposed to electric vehicles but to EV mandates or other acts contrary to the country's interests.

He doesn't like subsidizing the EVs for sure. Some have said that he may remove enough Federal employees and contractors to shift northeast Virginia Red. I doubt that though.
