I can video on my phone but can't do much with pics etc on this computer. I can take my finger and point at them to get their attention and then make a circle with it that they follow and then direct them where to go. It is comical.
You are the something, "Mary"; I still have a hard time with the two dogs, Leo and Foxy; getting them to do things I want them too. They probably always have some mental issues from being so abused, I guess; but they're a lot better now.
Well, it doesn't work for ALL my chickies. They are individuals. I would think abuse messes with the heads of all species. Figuring it out is difficult, dog or human. You guys are to be admired for trying with the dogs. I have only had to deal with one nut case dog. Family wanted me to take him back to the Humane Society but I would not because I figured no one else would put up with him.
I totally understand, and with Leo and Foxy; being so mental I know that no one would hardly understand them, even I don't. I've had hundreds of animals and none were so hard to figure out. Like when I go out to let chickens out to free range in the morning, he will come at me growling never really bites me just act like he is. Foxy attacks him and he puts her on her back and stands over her, until I make him get off. He tries not to hurt her and has only scratched her a couple times but Foxy screams like he's killing her. Once I lifted my leg over Foxy to go by her, didn't even touch her and she screamed like I was killing her.
This morning Leo comes at me growling; he doesn't bite me, I've tried almost everything even whacking him, but he still does it, and tried ignoring him. When I slapped him with my gloves, as he was chasing me on the golf cart, he acted like it broke his heart or something.
Nice looking dog. I've had dogs in the past That like to snap at me. Maybe I'm wrong but I compared it to breaking a horse, I found a way of taming one of my dogs That like to bite. I would put a glove's hand in front of it, and when it bit I would hold the lower jaw until it wimped. After a couple of times it stopped trying to bite me. We became closer it got the message.
Yes, I had a young GSD that I just had to decide it was him or me. I grabbed his collar, twisted it, flipped him, straddled him and put my hand over his throat. Stayed there a few minutes. Not sure about today's plan.
We've only had one biter; a young Jack Russell "terror". He bit me once and would bare his teeth and "low growl" at the children. He got moved out of here pretty fast. I had a friend who wanted him so buh-bye. No dog of mine is going to bite me.
I don't think I can pick a favorite pet. I've loved them all. We have had several dogs and cats over the years and they all have a special place in my heart. Right now, I have one cat in the house and 1 stray cat outside that I take care of. When my house cat is gone there will be no more.
Sometimes you have to show who's boss; that being said, when we first rescued him, I boxed the heck out of him when he acted that way, and he got worse than he was; so I tried just being kind, and he acts a lot better, but he keeps growling and acting like he's trying to tell me something; or control me. Not sure; they both quit chewing everything up. So that's a plus.
Actually you are right in your approach knowing the dog. I have a friend who adopted a little shitsu that had a broken jaw. When healed he growled and tried toothless biting. He came from a 'home' where the owner kicked him pretty often. We don't know what their past is.
So true, and we know they were beaten and abused, Leo, actually died, our vet told us, and he brought him back with a "full blood trans fusion". According to how long he was without oxygen to the brain; maybe playing a part in it, not sure, just hard to figure him out.
March we will have them 3 years. They have plenty of run time and space, went from hell to heaven. But neurotic. I never had a dog like these two. They were on 6' chain first 13 months of their life, siblings look nothing alike.
Leo and Foxy, are now starting to like my tractor; "I think", yesterday they went up to it, sniffing it; but what really let me know, is when Marie takes her walk, with them; they run off to the area"s I've cleared, where all the muscadine Vines were, they come back when called but when they're missing now that's where we find them; those vines were so thick they've never been able to explore those areas. Also Leo loves to mark our old vehicle tires, but I was watching him; out the window of the bay, and he would sneak up to rear tractor tires and sniff them, and then back away from them, then I seen him do the same in the front yard, after working in front yard, I had parked it; and was watching him from the front porch. When I crank the tractor; Leo is off and running away; he still doesn't trust it, at all.
