I'm still pained over this - pavements (sidewalks) are for 'pedestrians' There should be a law against youngsters using these things - ridiculous ! Pleased to hear you are OK Holly
Thanks Patsy, I totally agree, I'm fed up with bikes and motorised vehicles including scooters being permitted on the pavements...
Hello everybody - thank you all so much for your lovely messages. What a great community this is! @K E Gordon - they've been found. Swiss holiday makers. Their parents are livid with the boys - who had been told to stay on the campsite and not go into town, let alone knock down the local citizenry. We've been given some paperwork re: compensation. @Joe Riley - thank you for your prayers, your comment made me smile - getting swept away by the next generation! @Patsy Faye - if I'm chirpy it's because I realised how much worse the damage could have been. Also, nothing hurts too badly, it's uncomfortable. I think the thermal baths are wonderful. @Chrissy Page - wine in a hospital because this is France! They are quite strict - some conditions, treatments etc take you off the "allowed to drink wine" list. And it's not party time, but wine is considered an important part of a meal. The food is wonderful, and Dany can eat with me. @Corie Henson - hoverboards are not toys really. Anyway - my hip isn't broken, luckily, it was just a little out of alignment. It seems to be back in it's socket now. @Ike Willis - thank you Ike. You're right about them being inconsiderate - at least one of them was also wearing ear phones. So they were going too fast, on a pavement and were effectively deaf. @Yvonne Smith - thank you for your kind words. Re: my motorcycle, that was one of my first questions when I heard my hip had been injured. I can imagine riding pillion with the other injuries - but not being bale to get on the bike let alone sit in comfort with a painful hip. Luckily, the hip injury is not so bad. My shoulder is also back in place. Ribs will heal with time - the ankle is the worse injury. I can go home as soon as the swelling on the ankle reduces enough for any fracture or break to be treated. So, hopefully, for the weekend. After which a nurse will pop in twice a day. @Ken Anderson - thank you Ken. I've never had an accident in my life - so I was due one I suppose. It seems harder for Dany than me - he's feeling guilty that he wasn't with me. But I pointed out that we might both have been injured if he had been. @Holly Saunders - yes, they hit hard. Straight into my back - I fell forward onto my stomach, flat out. That's how come the second bovver-boarder rode the length of one side of my body. He hit the ankle first which is why that is the worse injury I suppose. What a coincidence it happening to us both ... !
Yes I've never known anyone to be hit by one before Julie, altho' I am perfectly aware of the possibility of it happening and am alert when there's anything like that around ...the strange thing with me was that these 'kids' seem to come from nowhere. There was loads of room on the pavement...and people milling around (it's a holiday resort)... but I never noticed these ''kids'',..and in the matter of seconds it took for me to turn my back and take the photo I was hit from behind...fortunately unlike you, I was hit on the leg and down I went on my side, that was sore enough but I was ok...you must have been hit verrrry hard indeed to have sustained such injuries...
@Julie Stewart My goodness! Personally, I am amazed by your ability to speak about the incident and it's results so lightly! I would be livid! Good that others possess qualities missing in my own persona. Get well soon. Frank
Hey get well soon! image from http://www.spanishdict.com/answers/190126/ray-is-not-feeling-well....please-send-him-a-note.
Julie so sorry that had such an awful and I'm sure painful accident. I add my wishes for a speedy healing. I wasn't aware that those hover board things could cause such damage. Those young men should at least be charged with negligent assault. They should also make a personal apology face to face to you.
@Holly Saunders - my ankle was ridden over hard. The initial hit sent me falling forwards, I don't know whether it was hard or not, but enough to make me topple. I fell flat on my front. The second bovver-boarder did the damage, he rode up my right side : right over my ankle bone, caught my hip, then seemed to hop up onto my ribs and across my shoulder. I remember it seemed very close to my cheek. The thing is they are silent - or maybe they have a quiet motor, I'm a bit deaf on one side .... @Frank Sanoica - I'm not livid, not even a little bit angry. I don't know why. My initial concern was to let Dany know I might be a few minutes late home .... or so I thought! Once I realized that I did actually need the ambulance that the people called I began to worry about the damage done. It was when I saw the shock on Dany's face that emotions kicked in - and they were for him. Thank you for your get well wishes. @Krissttina Isobe - thank you, that's sweet the teddy bear and the duck ... @Chris Ladewig - thank you for your thoughts. I guess it was how the thing rode over me that caused the damage, but imagine if I had been much older or was a small child.
Update - being in hospital is to be VERY BUSY!!!! I guess that's because I'm not actually ill - just damaged. I have a thermal bath 3 x a day - but there are exercises involved, plus physio 2 x a day. And there's no lying in bed waiting for visitors to peel my grapes - I have to keep moving .... the ankle swelling is going down. I'm having a scan on it tomorrow and should be home by tomorrow evening. The hip is fine. The ribs and shoulders ache. My ankle is a bit numb - that's why I need a scan to see if there's some nerve damage. The parents of the boys met Dany at the police station and sent me an apology/get well message. There is going to be some sort of claim against their insurance - although all my medical costs are covered by the system, so I don't know what the money will be for. Maybe just for me??? Anyway, the paperwork's more or less filled out - the police have to get the witness statements and a medical report. I don't know if the boys will come and apologize to me as @Chris Ladewig said. I don't really care for me - but it might be good for them. On the other hand, the families have only 2 days of their summer holiday left and there are 3 younger children in the group. I'd like them, the young children, to get the most out of their next two days rather than there being a tense atmosphere. Thanks again for al your lovely messages.
It's nice of you to think about the younger children getting to enjoy the rest of their vacation. Besides what the insurance pays, the parents should have at least sent flowers. It's the least I would have done. Hope there isn't any permanent nerve damage and you can go home soon.
I'm so sorry this happened to you. I'm concerned about residual pain post the accident but I hope you heal completely. It sounds like you are getting good care.
Updating my update .... I'm home. It's Saturday and I came home in time for lung and to watch the Tour de France on my own TV. @Patsy Faye - this is why I've not been here .... Yesterday I had an operation on my ankle - some nerves were compromised by a slight torsion fracture and the bones had to be turned back into place. They tried with non-surgical manipulation first, but it didn't work. I've been dosing up on homeopathic arnica montana since the accident and haven't needed any analgesia. Home ! Can't beat it. @Joe Riley - you always make me laugh ...
