I just woke up to a drizzle and later on it was already raining but not so hard. Now, I remember the weather forecast in last night's news that the storm Butchoy is coming to town. My husband turned on the tv for the early morning news. And he was right on his hunch that there are no classes today. And when there's no school that means the roads will not be crowded... not much traffic for a change. Gee, I'm itching to leave for work. What a nice rainy day.
@Yvonne Smith , I can just picture you in the corner of the pool tapping and talking to yourself. I haven't done it anymore because I'm not anxious now. Just need to get all these stupid wellness tests done And I'll be happy.
Mornin'. Bad news this morning from Dallas. Woke up at 3am. For some reason it seemed important that I turn on the TV news. More bad news. It's supposed to hit the 90's today. Well, I'm gonna watch the news for awhile now.
Morning to all! I try to see hope & promise in every new day, as it comes along. Some days are easier than others. I hope life smiles on you today!
Mornin' everyone. I'm not very perky today... it was bad enough reading and hearing the news but then I was able to see some raw video out of Dallas before the mainstream media could cut most of it away... and it was more than a little unnerving being for all intents and purposes, transported to the scene. The gunshots, the officers going down. My soul is crying. Added to that the fact that my nephew lives in Dallas and teaches at a university there... and I haven't been able to contact him this morning. Granted it's probably much too early to be trying, but aunties do worry! The quote is going through my head "Man's inhumanity to man makes countless thousands mourn." (Robert Burns) Indeed.
@Mari North , I hope your nephew is safe and sound. What a devastating blow for the Dallas law enforcement community. Has anyone heard why this happened? I heard it was started as a peaceful protest. In the late 60's and 70's, I was in a few peaceful marches and sit in's, but the worst we had to face was maybe water hoses and tear gas. If anything got out of hand a person might spend the night in jail, but guns and bullets never entered our minds. Makes me wonder what country has the least crime, and can I afford it.
Good Morning, Y'all. I was listening to the scanner app and watching the events of last night unfold on Twitter and via news apps. It's certainly not a good situation. Many police forces are making additional officers available for back up if one arrives or is dispatched to a scene and it's deemed too dicey to respond alone. Most can't afford 2 officers in each vehicle/on each call. It's worrisome that at least one of the guys they were talking to said this was only the beginning, but of course most pseudo revolutionaries say that. The face that it was obviously planned in advance and the shooters are well trained and well armed is concerning. Other than that, the sun rose, the cats are fed, trash is out, and I'm sitting here with a cup of tea. My plans are unsure right now, it depends on whether I get more sleep or decide to make a pot of coffee. Hope y'all have a decent day.
Good morning everyone. Haven't seen the news about Dallas yet except for the headline. Sad, very sad. Yesterday a 19 year old white boy was shot in Fresno, bet it didn't make the national news. There were lots of such comments made after the article along the lines of where are the riots, looting etc. I'll look up the article and post it....and no I'm not being racist, I'm a snackist. Edit: It actually happened on June 25th and I just heard about it yesterday because they released the footage.
I finally heard from him and he's okay, @Ina I. Wonder . Thank you for asking! He was home last night, fortunately, and will stay on alert today. He's just a short distance away, so easily could have been in the area. Shivers. As for the cause.... yeah, I could guess, but it's probably not a good time to elaborate. At least not in our good morning thread. But I'd say "just more of the same" most likely.
I saw someone mention that on Twitter, @Chrissy Page , I'm glad you posted about it, because I haven't had much sleep, and had forgotten to look it up. @Mari North I forgot I was going to mention that a lot of people were trapped downtown by the site of the incident (in Dallas) last night, and that maybe he was caught up in the traffic issues. I'm glad you were able to get in touch with him and he's o.k. It might be a good day to hunker down if they don't need to go out.
That's what I always think, too, @Chrissy Page .. trying to make a point that certain lives matter by having no regard for other lives that you're taking? I just can't get a lick of sense out of that. Of course you're not being a racist... just being aware of the headlines tells us where the real racism is happening.
I agree, @Diane Lane ... I forgot to ask if the university is having classes today or not. I think maybe some schools are closed today... but if he has to teach, he'll have to head out... or probably has already.
You can go to the school's website and it should state whether or not classes will take place. Sometimes, professors will place certain materials online for access by their students, and hopefully your nephew will be able to do that, if he had something scheduled for today.
I found the comments on Facebook Fresno. https://www.facebook.com/topic/Fres...ce=whfrt&position=1&trqid=6304677323163453987
I'll look around on Twitter when I get there to see what is being said. It's hard to tell from that video what is going on. From the perspective of the video, he seems to be prone on the ground, but I'll have to see what came before, what came up when the cops ran him/his plates, etc. I wonder why they're not releasing the body camera video. Probably being reviewed by internal affairs and legal first. I tend to support law enforcement, but obviously not when they step over the line.
