I remember one time when I was between jobs and was collecting unemployment benefits. This was in California back in the early seventies when the allotment was in cash rather than a check. I did not get a great deal of money, but it was enough to pay the rent and barely purchase enough food to eat.

As I left the office, I saw a bum and for some reason had a feeling I should give him a few dollars even though I really had no excess to share. So, I gave him two or three dollars and started walking away. I immediately turned around to tell him the money was for food and not cheap wine, but he was gone. I mean totally gone. I was in my prime back then and started to jog around looking for the man, but it was as if he never existed. Within a day or two of that event, I was offered a decent job and once again was not in need of any outside governmental help.

Still to this day I wonder if he was just very quick, or perhaps an angel seeing what condition my heart was in.

This is an interesting story you have told here. Some would probably say oh the man was just a bum. But when you think about the fact that just a few days after helping him out your life took a turn for the better what if he was an angel who tested you. One thing is certain though, you selflessness did lead to the universe wanting to give you something more then you already had. You proved that even though things weren't good for you at the time that you could still show compassion for someone who seem wor

Yes, I believe in angels walking the Earth. I also believe that man could have lifted you up in prayer blessing you for helping him out. Of course I can't say anything about him vanishing the way he did, which is why I stated my belief in angels first.

This reminds me of when I was saved from falling flat on my face after getting a new pair of eyeglasses. I do believe it was my eyes making an adjustment to the new script but the fall ? it was broken by an unseen angel. My glasses should have broken in my face, I should have had a busted nose and even lost some teeth that day. I remember that I felt safe as I was about to hit the ground.

@Hannah Davis @Von Jones There are just too many instances of being helped by an unknown entity, seen or not seen. Whenever I get a "gut" feeling, I always follow it and even if I do not receive anything tangible, it is worth it!

There are most definitely angels walking this earth. Recently took a tour because it advertised a trip to Hadrians Wall which I have wanted to see for some years.

We drove PAST Hadrians Wall at high speed and that was it. Driver said he had covered the visit and back to the hotel we went leaving many of us disappointed to say the least.

To get over this I took a walk by the river alone where I spotted a young man in the distance. Being a lonely spot I doubled back onto the road and carried on walking eventually stopping at a small garage so that I could buy a snack. A gentle voice asked if I was OK and on turning there was the young man I had seen by the river. We exchanged pleasantries and I told him that I had so wanted to visit Hadrians Wall etc. He explained that he was an archaeology student walking the Wall and if I felt I could trust him he would show me a shortcut to Chester Fort which is a large part of the wall..

I spent 4 hours in this delightful young mans company and as we both love history, there were no age barriers. We shared the same sense of humour in the spectacular Roman Baths and together walked the still intact roman roads taking photographs for memories. All in all a truly shared wonderful experience.

In all of the world, the chances of meeting this charming man who knew so much about the wall and at such a time when I was so deflated, was in itself a miracle, so Yes there are angels in many shapes and forms.

That is great Val! We just never can tell who we are about or the impact we will have on each other.

I definitely believe that we encounter angels! Once my daughter and I were out driving, and we saw an old man dressed in work clothes, by the side of the road, holding a sign about needing food. We gave him what little cash we had, and drove on. When we were almost to our destination, about 4 miles away, we saw the SAME MAN. There is no way he could have walked that distance faster than she could drive it! "...entertaining angels unaware..."

I believe in angels-- God's ministering Spirits. But they have no control of man's choices, responses to God's call and destiny. They help in the plan God has for every human to His good purposes and revelations. But man's choice to do evil is never God's will and doing. Yes, I believe in angels.

In reality, he was probably very quick and you job offer was a coincidence. I do want to believe that angels exist. I am just not sure they intervene in our lives all that often.

There are things in the Bible that seem incredible to me, but which I have to believe because the Bible says it's true. Angels intervening in the lives of people is one of these things.

"Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels unawares." -- Hebrews 13:2

I have many reasons to believe in angels, or some kind of divine intervention.

There are so many mysteries in life and I believe that they occur to touch our lives. I cannot say if that bum is an angel or a real pauper but your act of kindness is the thing that was returned to you. It's like saying in the movies that it is not the medium but the story.

A few years back, it was nearing Christmas and I just received my bonus. I was on my way to the parking area where my husband was in the car, waiting for me when I chanced upon a woman with 2 kids sorting out items in the cart. She was obviously a scavenger who earns by picking up trash and selling to the recycling shop. I don't know what hit me but I gestured to my husband that I would buy something in the nearby convenience store. I got a big sandwich and handed it to the woman who was profuse with her thanks. My husband didn't say a word until we were past the first traffic lights. He asked why I did that. And I was honest to say I don't know.

There was a succession of good fortune in the following days. And I believed that it was my act of kindness that is being returned to me.

What if that lady whom you showed philanthropy to is still thinking that you were an angel, sent from God? That could have given her hope in life from that moment on? ;)
