Some of you may have seen this posting. Since it was posted on MSNBC, the entire thing may be Trump's fault. A resistant fungus is apparently spreading across the globe that some have linked to the widespread use of fungicides on our food crops. Fungus
@Don Alaska "C. auris, which infected the man at Mount Sinai, is one of dozens of dangerous bacteria and fungi that have developed resistance. Yet, like most of them, it is a threat that is virtually unknown to the public." In what constructive way does making the public at large aware of drug resistance development help them? There are surely few steps that each and every one of us might follow to limit the danger to us, no? One might be avoiding hospitals........ Frank
Caution is always the key, @Frank Sanoica. Being aware of the issue shouldn't cause panic, but it should make people aware of the problem. Try to avoid people who are symptomatic, and if you develop symptoms, seek medical attention. I remember the panic that AIDS caused in the 1980s, and much of it was unfounded. CRE is probably the biggest threat to public health, and most people are not aware of it. The C. auris threat may be caused by agriculture, but most threats are caused by misuse of antibiotics, as they are controlled in the developed world, but in many countries there is no restriction on their use whatsoever.
