    Good morning to all-
So, we have another school shooting. Getting pretty regular, don't you think?
Kids being killed by other kids with guns. Teacher being killed by kids with guns.

It's obvious to anyone with the sense God gave a goose that our country is so saturated with firearms of all kinds, talking about "gun control" is silly. Trying to control guns in the US is like trying to control hurricanes- it can't be done. In our country, thanks to the various sordid gun lobbies and loud gun rights proponents guns are everywhere. .

So, what about the crazy people who use these so easily accessible guns to commit mass murders?

To quote state representative Frank Ginn who sits on a bi-partisan panel looking into gun violence, "Firearms are not the enemy. The enemy is the mentally deranged."

OK- let's look at for a moment. Just how do we determine "mental derangement"?

I spent many years working with lots of kids in school, and did a lot of work with various forms of "mental derangement" and I can assure you all still with me that determining "mental derangement" is one of the hardest things to do with people. Tests are notoriously inaccurate. The condition can and does change with time and situation. I would go so far as to state that many of the folks on this forum would have been "mentally deranged" at certain times in their lives- we all fit that, I promise you.

And even if we do by some means determine that a person is "mentally deranged" what do we do with them? the options at this point are extremely limited. In fact, good old jail is the most common treatment for many "mentally deranged" people and I don't think many folks come out of jail better than when they went in.

Firearms and their absolute easy availability ARE the enemy. We can't do much about "mentally deranged" people- they will always be with us. But if we made it much, much more difficult for these people to get their hands on guns- especially the military-type rapid fire killers- we might not have to listen to quite so many mass shooting reports.

For those of your who had the courage to read through this with me, thank you. For all, again, just think about how you would react if YOUR grandchild was killed by a gun in the schoolhouse.

    We can do better.

you all be safe and keep well- Ed

When guns and weapons of all sorts are abolished, especially from large organized groups like the police and military, then the numbers of mass murders will greatly diminish.

To have any lasting effect, you've got to start at the top.

    Good evening to all-
    Mr. Nopales
With all due respect, this is one of strangest responses I have ever read. That is sort of like saying "When all disease and accident are abolished, we'll all live longer." and just about as likely to happen, I'd say.

you all be safe and keep well- Ed
