Normal resting heart beat is between 70 to 100 BPM. Too high or too low can create a problem like with my recent bout of A Fib and a 175 BPM. As I sit here typing, my blood pressure is fine and my heart rate is a nice steady 70 BPM.Those of us with PACEMAKERS still must take drugs to keep the heart in proper rhythm for the PACEMAKER to do it's job and keep you in good rhythm. I saw my Cardiologist this morning to have my Pacemaker fine tuned and to adjust the meds that I will have to take. The technology is quite amazing.
I thought they put pacemakers in your chest near to your heart, yet I think Chrissy said they put yours in your left shoulder? Am I wrong about where they used to place them or is there a reason they put them in different places now? @Lon Tanner
Shirley said she knew someone that had in the left shoulder and I also think Sheldon said the same about his wife http://www.seniorsonly.club/threads/getting-a-pacemaker-saturday.7462/
The one that my friend had was in her left shoulder just above her breast. The wire was run through her chest into her heart. Ouch! She said that it wasn't uncomfortable, though. I was amazed that she could get on the phone with some kind of gadget and the doctors could check her pacemaker.
Placement of the Pacemaker depends on the individual and their particular heart issue. I have what is called a Two Lead Pacemaker. One lead to each heart chamber from a vein in the shoulder.
