I got up early ( way too early ) got a cup of coffee and came here. Then had a bowl of cereal and decided to make a sweet potato cake. It's in the oven now and here I am with a second cup of coffee.

Now you will be able to have a hot piece of sweet potato cake with your third cup of coffee, Sheldon. Sounds delicious ! !

Sweet potato cake...sounds yummy @Sheldon Scott. :) I have a recipe for pineapple sweet potato bread that is delicious too and now I'm going to have to go buy the ingredients for it since you've made me hungry for some. :)

Is Sweet Potato pie a "Southern states" food? Never heard of it when living in Indiana, California, Colorado or even here in northeastern Florida. Anyway, but way too "sugary" for us (Diabetic II).

From what I know, some Southern food can be might hot and spicy tasting. Ever heard of Louisiana Hot Sauce?

I love spicy food and have no trouble with it...my favorite is siracha now but do have Tabasco also.

Don't forget, Mexican food can be hot also!

I'm partial to most any dish that has roots in 'Orleans.

Seafood or Crawfish Gumbo ( when in season ) is a great add to any
    outdoor party.

My all time favorite is Red Beans and Rice.

You can mix up the sausage and seasoning so it's never boring.

I wash it down with a big bottle of RC cola with a small bag of

    dumped in.

    Now that's Southern!

When I was growing up, a favorite of my brothers and myself was mom's
    Sweet Potato casserole with marshmallows.

    1. OOPS, I misread your post Kitty. I thought you said "possum". I've always heard sweet potatoes were good with 'possum.

My mom didn't make it, but someone would often have it at church dinners. Good stuff.

'Possum wit sweet tater stuffin'! Dat's why ya leave da hade on it so ya can put a tater in it's mouff before ya put in on da table. Ah hates da taste but it shore makes it more purdy dat way.
Dee udder ting good bout the sweet tater is dat it don't got no buckshot in dem to spit out while you eatin' dem.
