It's been over 12 years since my Mom died...and yet when I put on the sweater that I kept that she often wore...I can feel her hugs enveloping me...even after all this time. :)

I make sure I give those hugs to my children and grandchildren. They didn't come natural for me at first...but now my not hugging those I love would feel unnatural.

I have made it a point to add to my life the things I felt I needed but were missing in the family I grew up with. For instance giving a hug and saying I love you before ending a visit or a telephone call.

And @Ken Anderson is right that TV did help change some things. After I watched the loving feelings expressed on the Waltons and Little House on the Prairie...I brought some of those same things into my family life where they have grown and flourished...and then bloomed into their own family and lives too. :)
