Bayer is going to complete the purchase of Monsanto, and retire the Monsanto name, although there's no indication that they intend to change any of the things that have given Monsanto such a bad name. -- MSN

Does this mean I have to go to the drug store to get roundup, or to the farm store to get aspirin?!?!

Bayer has been in agriculture for a while now, and may be responsible for the "Colony Collapse Disorder" that is afflicting honey bees. Some people think it began when Bayer released a nicotine-based insecticide. The company actually bribed the EPA to allow its release without complete trials. Apparently, the EPA, like the FDA, has an institutionalized bribery system in place, where wealthy companies can pay a fee for "expedited release" of new products. It has been in place for some time, and the first I heard of it was in the Clinton Administration (for the FDA) but it may have existed prior to that.

Monsanto has operated for many decades with utter lack of concern for the dangers their products were, and still are, introducing into the environment, worldwide.

"In 1935, Monsanto Chemical Company (now Solutia Inc) took over commercial production of PCBs from Swann Chemical Company which had begun in 1929."
    See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polychlorinated_biphenyl#History

Somewhere around that time, a Monsanto chemist concluded the dangers present, expressed that to Management, and the matter was closed. This occurred with a number of their products. Monsanto was responsible for producing and selling asbestos products for many decades, a fact which resulted in their filing bankruptcy.

Further scrutiny reveals the same outfit heavily contributed to, and still contributes, Genetically Modified products of all kinds. Great company, even if completely morally bankrupt.

I'm absolutely going to quite buying Bayer aspirin. St Joseph, here I come for fear Bayer might mis up the ingredients of aspirin and roundup, selling us rouundup in an aspirin pill and aspirin in a jug of roundup. Woe is we.

Good point, @Bill Boggs. Given that Monsanto's GMO seed finds its way into the produce of people who did not want it, that's not unreasonable.

Here is a list of the people who are part of Monsanto, and are also part of the government. It is no wonder they do whatever they want to in this country.
