At Long Beach State College, we used to go to the "Forty Niners" Tavern off campus on Friday nights to drink beer and sing. (This was from 1956 to 1960, when I attended that college.)

We liked to imitate the incomparable Yale University "Whiffenpoofs" Glee Club, which was founded in 1909.

Their most famous college song was "The Whiffenpoof Song", loved and sung around the world when the group is on tour.

I'm a nostalgic sentimentalist, and I love to hear college Glee Clubs sing this classic.

What I'd REALLY like to hear are the massed choruses of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing this song!

To hear it, go to YouTube and select "The Whiffenpoof Song by the Yale Whiffenpoofs of 2012".

"Gentlemen Songsters off on a spree,
    Damned from here to Eternity.
God have Mercy on such as we,
    Baa...Baa...Baa"

I've got to admit, Seniors...those Yale singers do seem a bit "fruity" in their performance, and I must apologize for that!

I like the song, but not the way they act it out!

I'll take the Robert Shaw Chorale any time!
