I have recently installed a cordless mouse on my wife's laptop computer as she has big problems trying to use the finger mouse on the keyboard.. Yes I disabled the finger mouse ...
No problem using it and she really enjoys it.. it works very well..
Now, the mouse has underneath it an on off switch which is very small....

    Question ??????
Does she have to close the mouse off when not using it or just leave the switch on all the time...
It seems to go off after a while anyway but I was just asking what is the proper thing to do....

I don't think it makes much difference, Steve. I used to turn the mouse off when I closed my laptop but I don't bother anymore. I just leave it on.

The one I use at my son's turns off automatically and sounds as though your wife's does as well, Steve.

I have an On/Off switch on my wireless keyboard and only turn it Off if I happen to be transporting it. If I put it in my case and a key stays depressed (or in your case, a mouse button stays pushed), it will be continuously transmitting and wear the batteries down.

Other than that rare circumstance, my keyboard always stays On and the batteries last for months of pretty heavy use.

I have a wireless trackpad with an on-off switch. I turn it off whenever I turn the computer off or I'll have to plug it in to charge it more often. It's not a bid deal either way. I haven't used a mouse since I bought my first MacBook, other that once in a while when I use the Windows machine. Since I also have an iMac, I found that switching from using a trackpad on the MacBook to a mouse with the iMac was too confusing, so I bought an external wireless trackpad for my iMac.

My wife just asked me how come on her laptop computer, all of a sudden the keyboard doesn't work..
She must of pressed something to disconnect the use of her keyboard.. She can't use the keyboard at all.. Nothing works..
I tried to reboot but that didn't work.. I tried all of the F keys and they didn't help the situation..
She can scroll and open up anything but NO keyboard.. The mouse works perfectly..

Do you have any suggestion how to fix the problem ???

If this is a wireless keyboard, start with the simple stuff.
-Make sure the received is plugged into the USB port securely
    -Make sure it's turned on
    -Replace the batteries

    From this website:

    1. Power OFF and Restart
The problem of Keyboard not working on your Windows Laptop might be related to minor software glitches.

    1. Power OFF your computer.
    2. Wait for 2 minutes and Restart your computer.
You might be pleasantly surprised see the Keyboard of your Laptop magically back to its working condition.

    2. Use Keyboard Shortcuts
Sometimes, unknowingly pressing certain key combinations can result in the Keyboard becoming inaccessible or locked out.

Users have reported fixing this problem and unlocking the keyboard by pressing the following key combinations

    1. Press Windows + Space keys on the keyboard of your computer
    2. Press the key with Lock Icon on the keyboard of your Laptop. Depending on the manufacturer, the key with the Lock Icon could be the Escape Key, F10 Key or another key.
    3. Press and Hold down the Shift key and press the Lock Icon Key.

This time it is about my situation with my desktop..
For example, … Lets just say I am on the computer at 4:00pm for about an hour or so and by 5:00 ish I have to go make supper...….………… QUESTION...…..
Is it better to completely shut down the computer or put it to sleep till I come back to it at around 11:00pm which is about 6 hours ..???????
How about if it is only 3 hours ?? Is it still better to close down or put it to sleep ??
What would be the logical time limit to put it to sleep instead of closing it down ????

I am definitely not worried about the power (electricity) saving but rather the computer itself..
I do have a screen saver that is on.... blank.... which turns off after 10 minutes of not being used..

I leave my computer on all the time. It puts itself to sleep and if updates come in they are applied.

    Al....
Will updates come in if the computer is put to sleep ???
I have some windows updates just waiting and they will take about 2 hours.. should I just leave it and forget about closing down and let the updates do its thing ??

OK... Its now 8:30am and I am going back to sleep till almost noon...
I will just leave the computer alone till I come back in a few hours...
