I need to iron a few of my clothes but I don't have any starch. So I found this recipe. https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=7287...2YzMyNGI4ZmMxMWVjODEwYzQ2N2ExOTVmMjQ1ZQ&ntb=1
I have not owned a can of spray starch for 50 years, since the days that I had to iron my husband's khakis and fatigues into properly stiff and creased "correctness". I do not miss that chore.
In Vietnam, the mama-sans at head camp would use rice water for starch. They’d boil down the rice into a goo and then add more water to it and bingo, starch. I can’t say that it smelled particularly good especially when sweat is added but it did what it was supposed to do. Now that I think about it, my grandmother might have used cornstarch or something she had to add water to. She’d sprinkle an article of clothing and then roll it up and let it sit for a couple of hours. After that she’d do the ironing. Heck, I remember her taking an iron off of the stove to iron clothes.
