I finalized our trip to Florida, the first part of September.

After weighing the pros and cons, we decided to drive from Nashville
to Orlando for the first part of the vacation.

Plan is to drive first day to around Macon, Ga. and spend the night.
Next morning, drive on in to Disney World for the 5 day stay.

We'll be staying at 'Shades of Green' resort inside the park.

One of those days we'll drive over to the coast and tour Kennedy Space Center.

From Disney World, we'll drive over to the Gulf Coast side to spent the next 3 nights
on the beach at North Redington Beach. ( the package I won at our XMAS party last year )

Our plans for Disney World consist of finding the wife the best place to be for EVERY parade
and for me, finding the best bench to sit, eat and watch the world go by.
Oh, and we will be eating alot. ( even have an Afternoon Tea booked )

We might even get on a ride or two; I'm still a kid at heart...

Sounds like fun! I did something similar when I visited my mom and sister in NJ. We flew from her house there to her condo in West Palm Beach. Then we went to Disney world for a few days, stayed at a hotel on the property and then went back to her condo. We also went to the Kennedy Center on that trip. Think it was a 2 hr drive from her place.

I had a great time especially since my mom was still alive then, plus my sister and my nephew and nieces were fun company at Disney World.

I think it was around this time in August a few years ago that we went.

    Have a great trip!!

Oh, wow......just WOW. @Tim Burr ! ! That looks like a dream vacation, and I am sure that you will have such a wonderful time on your trip. I am looking forward to seeing some pictures as you enjoy your travels.
And since you will be driving the whole trip, there will be all of that awesome scenery in between your designated vacation stops. Will you be going anywhere close to St. Augustine while you are in Florida ? My daughter was there a few years ago, and I remember that she had some awesome photos of some of the old Spanish buildings down there.
Another wonderful attraction in Florida that I would love to see is the Coral Castle. I have read about the mystery of this home, and how it came to be built at all, and I think it would be one of the most interesting places to see.
The pictures of the resort where you will be staying are beautiful ! !

@Chrissy Cross We have been talking about how to plan this trip since Dec of last year
when we won the beach trip.

We added the Disney part, feeling we needed a little 'Magic' in our lives.

    I am ready.:)

@Yvonne Smith 'Shades of Green' is the resort for Active and Retired Military.
It's between the two golf courses, so it is quiet and pretty nice.
A short walk to the Monorail to get to the other parks.

When we went to Disney World (Hollywood Studio's) last year (June 2016), the temperature was HOT. Should've rented a wheelchair because there was a lot of walking around and standing in lines. It was pretty neat experience, but never again. One thing for sure, the trip wasn't cheap.

It was fun and, since we are "camera buffs", got all kinds of photos.

    Have fun!!

It was especially hot for me since it was humid and I'm not used to that but I survived.

Sounds like a wonderful vacation @Tim Burr for you and your wife. After Thanksgiving is when Disney World starts decorating with Christmas trimmings and lights, etc. This is our favorite time to go there...plus the weather is alot cooler then too. :) Looking forward to hearing how your vacation went and hopefully seeing some pics too. :)

No Mickey or Goofy this time.

We decided to forgo the trip to Florida due to Irma.
Cancelled the reservations, ( everyone was friendly and helpful to get this done ).

Made a quick trip to Georgia to visit friends and today we head to Washington D.C. for 7 days.
( always have to have a 'Plan B' hiding in the background! )

Plan to visit all the major sights - Holocaust Museum, Vietnam Memorial Wall, and every museum we can.

Everyone down that way, stay safe.

It is too bad that you have to forgo the Florida vacation at this time; but I think that this was a very wise decision on your part, with this gigantic hurricane about to hit the Florida coast.
If it does come right up through Florida, Disney World would probably be closed down anyway, and it sounds like some areas are already experiencing shortages, and the storm has not even hit yet.
I remember that @Ken Anderson has posted about their sightseeing trips to Washington DC; and that sounds like a good backup plan for you.
Send pictures when you have time, @Tim Burr ! !

Back from our trip to Washington, D.C and it was incredible.

Weather was perfect, and the people we met were great.

We stayed out in the Greenbelt area and rode the Metrorail to
    all the sights.

7 days exploring the city was just right to see everything.

For me, some high points was the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier,
meeting six WWII vets on an Honor Flight by the memorial, The Korean Memorial and of course
    the Vietnam Memorial Wall.

Also met our Congressman and since the House was in session, we got a Gallery Pass to watch
him introduce an Amendment on the Floor.

Being there on 9/11 was moving.

A humbling experience; seeing our Founders plan for the Country.
