And I'm sure Holly Saunders would agree! Google "When I Was A Lad" from HMS Pinafore, by the Stratford Festival of 2017. Sir Harry
Frankly, I'm disappointed that nobody replied to my thread about the song "When I Was A Lad" from the Gilbert & Sullivan musical "HMS Pinafore". I always assumed that there wasn't a Britisher alive who didn't adore G&S musicals, and was really disappointed not to see at least a response from Holly Saunders! Hal
Not my cup of tea - prefer Irvin Berlin, Cole Porter - Bernstein The list goes on …… I may be English (altho 3quarter Irish) the US did the best musicals till the wonderful 'Oliver' from the also great songwriter Lionel Bart
Patsy, I also prefer the great American Musical Theater composers, such as Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Richard Rodgers, Leonard Bernstein, as well as individual compositions, such as Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" and "American in Paris". It's just that Gilbert and Sullivan wrote light-hearted "Operettas", which are more suited to the Stage than the Film genre. They're ALL my cup of tea! Cheers, Harold
Of course, you're right - Lionel Bart then for my cuppa of stage, although Bernstein and others did stage but I get the 'operetta' stuff - 'tra la la'
