The term "Goose Stepping" is a misnomer.

When you see a video of actual Geese stepping, they articulate the step through bending their leg joints.

The Military Goose Step uses the leg in a rigid, locked position, which has no resemblance to the way a Goose steps.

from wicki.... The term "goose step" originally referred to a British military drill in which one leg at a time was swung back and forth without bending the knee.[1] Apparently, standing on only one leg reminded soldiers of how geese often stand. The term was later applied to the German Stechschritt during World War I and is nowadays heavily associated with Nazi Germany in many English-speaking countries.[2][3] As a result, the term has acquired a pejorative meaning in some English-speaking countries.

Either way, I like regular marching better. I really don't think swinging a straight leg up and down looks makes the soldiers look more mighty.

In the Military I learned it was something else.
Correction: Maybe I refer to Duck Walking.

Every time I'm watching them goose-stepping, all I can think of is the pain they must be feeling in their lower back!!

Yeah, if I did that more than a few steps, I would look something like this:
