Two Fred Astaire dance scenes in the 1951 movie Royal Wedding Dancing with a coat rack and dancing on the ceiling (1:02) In the second clip, the hotel room was constructed inside a huge rotating steel cage, the furniture was bolted down, the camera and cameraman were strapped on the wheel to coincide with the floor of the room, and traveled around 360 degrees, while Astaire danced always remaining upright as the room rotated around him. There are no pictures of the original set, but a side by side simulation was created by Bigfott Studios in a project called ASTAIR UNWOUND, with a lengthy discussion of how details were likely handled. I think the simulation is more interesting than the original scene. (Best viewed full screen on YouTube)
Later, I will look at those videos of the tango - just love to watch a good dance My favourite is 'America' - West Side Story
My favorite "dance" scene is also from West Side Story! It's the Prologue, where the JETS and the SHARKS perform Ballet Leaps and Twirls as they chase each other through a NY slum area. Hal
We have and watch, Saturday Night Fever. In-between Grease, Saturday Night Fever and Stayin' Alive, dear old John Travolta could really, really dance. So can Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers and Gene Kelly, but John Travolta really could also.
Yep, I love a Tango and Astaire is the master of tap with a built in drum, boy could he drum with his feet !
This thread reminds of of a blurb I once read about Fred Astaire: It's fascinating how many great names faced rejection early on. I guess things happen for a reason. Or perseverance pays. Or never listen to an expert.
