I've always been interested in Greta Garbo. She was not the most beautiful actress, and surely not the best actress, but there is something about her that's intriguing. Maybe it was the Swedish accent. Maybe it's a toughness and independence, which shows both on and off screen. The bar scene from the movie Anna Christie, 1930. It was Garbo's first "Talkie" movie. The other woman in the bar is Marie Dressler. There was some speculation that her voice would not be appropriate for talking movies, but she was an instant hit.
