You know the kind. They ask you----Did we sleep well----Did we move our bowels---Did we take our medicine etc. etc.
I despise that type of patronisation , especially from waiting staff... ''what would we like to drink says the waiter ( I don't know about you, but I'd like water) ... did we have a good time says the host, whenever anyone says that to me..I always say ''I don't know, you tell me did we? ''
I am a nurse and have never, ever resorted to this nonsense. Most of it is overstated anyhow. We'd have been murdered by our instructors and teachers had we pulled something like that. Same as the old business, that we wake a patient up to give them a sleeping pill. Give me a break.
I do not readily recall anyone asking me the “we” question much less a nurse but maybe I do not remember because it didn’t bother me at the time someone said it. Now, whether or not the “we” thing is included, what does bug me are the disingenuous I don’t really care questions and statements such as; good morning, have a good day or even how are you doing when in fact, they could care less and are not really prepared to accept a response. Just a thought though; I do wonder if Queen Victoria took much backlash when she would say something along the line of, “we are not amused”. I guess no matter how much it might have bugged some folks, it became a part of societal speech since after all, if it was good for the Queen, it should be good for all. Hmmmmm......wasn’t it Queen Victoria who insisted that people take at least one bath a month? I can see it now; The Queen saying, “We are going to take a bath” to the chambermaid. Imagine the look on That gal’s face the first time she heard it!! . Another thought. One may say we whilst in the bath, but it is not proper to do wee whilst in the bath. .
my mother was a nurse and she would have been your age today Lois, and I know she would be saying the same thing as you....
