The news media in the Virginia Beach shooting which happened just a short while ago. There still has not been a photo of the shooter. Why does it not feed into the media narrative or it show something that they do not want you to know. If he was wearing a MAGA hat it would be worldwide news for months.

What are they trying to hide

DeWayne Craddock is the guy’s name but like you wrote, there are no pictures so far as I could find.
What I do question about the whole incident is that the people were shot in a municipal building. Obviously a municipal building with no security or metal detectors.
As large as Virginia Beach is, how is it that the city government hasn’t prepared itself against armed nutters?

Granted, the blame for the shooting cannot be placed upon the shoulders of the city, but the lack of preparedness obviously can. Are there no Boy Scouts left in this land of ours?

And the other thing I question is that the shooter worked for the Utility company for 15 years and suddenly he cracks and goes postal with no one noticing that something was amiss with the dude?

I think he is a black man. That might discourage some, but I think the main reason is they no longer want to make these people famous/infamous. They want shooters to be forgotten, not lionized. Seeking fame is one reason people do this stuff.

I was going to mention that the first name “DeWayne” is probably more indicative that he may be black but for whatever reason I decided that it didn’t fit with my post.

And.....I do agree that in the past these shooters have been made somewhat famous by the media so not giving them a whole lot of space might help curtail some of the fantasies that future possible shooters might have about themselves being in the history books.

I did see one picture of him on one broadcast, and he appeared to be black. I didn't draw the conclusion from the name.

I don't know why they didn't show his picture right off. I read the story with no picture
then a few days later reaad a recap and viewed his photolater.I didn't think they were
trying to hide anything but I don't know. A delay like this or longer is usually because
the shooter is somebody, financially or otherwise.

Rather than accepting the cries of the gun banners for more gun control, whenever something like this occurs, the outrage should be over the fact that not only was there not adequate protection provided in this building, but people were not permitted to carry the tools necessary to protect themselves.

Were he white, his picture would have been prominent as soon as it was available, and the media would be pondering the likelihood that he was part of a white-supremacist group.

I listened to a discussion today on the radio concerning knives in New York. Apparently the state legislature passed a poorly-worded law concerning knives that could open. NYPD in New York City took it to mean that all pocket knives were illegal and arrested 70, 000 people for carrying pocketknives (85% were people of color) before the uproar got too loud. The state legislature tried at least once to repeal the law but Governor Cuomo vetoed the bill. Some organization threatened to take the case as far as the U.S. Supreme Court and the governor, fearing he would really look stupid if it got on the national stage, signed the latest attempt at repeal on Friday. The contention was that knives are covered under the Second Amendment, since it doesn't specify firearms, but "arms" of any kind. I don't know what will happen to those already arrested.

One might ponder the question as to why 85% of non-whites were carrying a knife in the first place!!

The other reason you did not hear much about this guy was he was a registered Democrat. So the media goes quiet. As far as knives I have carried a pocket knife all my life and have never harmed anyone.

Although knives come in handy for a number of things throughout the day, and I often try to remind myself to carry one, I have gotten out of the habit since I became an adult. Pretty much every boy had a pocket knife when I was a kid and yes, we brought them to school with us, yet I don't remember anyone being stabbed.

I also carry a knife with me almost everywhere I go, as they are very useful in what we do. My wife is often borrowing my knife (or my keys) as I always have them with me. I have never cut or stabbed anyone either, but have cut many ropes and the heavy blade on my knife allows me to pry stuff out of tough places where fingernails just won't do.

    @Ken Anderson
Or reprimanded, suspended, or otherwise chastised for having a knife. Knives were a part of everyday life, one way or another.
