Mitt Romney is going to vote to call more witnesses in the impeachment trial of President Trump. 64% of Utah Republicans oppose more witnesses. 68% are in favor of acquittal. I always thought that a politician was supposed to vote according to the majority of their constituent's wishes. If he was my senator, I would be extremely unhappy with him. Apparently, Utah Republicans agree with me. 60% say they are not likely to vote for him in the nest election.

He can vote anyway he pleases. His constituents can then do the same.

No politician is beholden to his constituent's wishes if he feels what he is doing is in the best interest of the country.

But if his constituents think that his vote is not in the best interest of the country? I refer you to post number 2.

I knew this is what they DID, but I don't think this is why they are voted into office. Aren't they there to be the voice of the particular people they represent? If not, then why even pay them a salary. It is so annoying.....isn't it?

We are supposed to have a representative form of government. Vote me into office and I will do your bidding.

In theory, you are exactly correct, Bess. But not all constituents want the same things. Everyone has his/her desires from his Representative. Presumably said Congress person will consider the most important issues and address them first and foremost. However, once in the Capitol, there are so many diversions, that often what the voters want take a back seat. There are committees, commissions, and whatnot, that the system works at all is utterly amazing.
